We hiked the trail to the Sun Gate which is where the Inca Trail connects with the outside periphery of Machu Picchu and one catches the first sight down onto the ruins. On the way up we encountered porters who were running down the trail to Machu Picchu and on down to the village carrying loads bigger than themselves.
