PROCEDURES
STEP 1
On The back of your paper draw a rectangle one-inch by seven-inches. Mark this off in one-inch increments. Begin by lightly shading in one square. Then, make the next square slightly darker. Continue to do this until you reach the last square, which should be shiny black.
STEP 2
Place your glass objects on a table. Where can you see oval shapes?
Unless you are standing directly over the glass you probably do not see any circles.
What lines are parallel? You know that the top of the jar is round, but what do you really see? From your point of view it is probably an oval. Do you see a repeat of this oval at the bottom of the glass? Does the glass and/or the water distort what you see of the glasses behind it? Where do you see black and where do you see white? Are there any shadows?
STEP 3
Quickly draw a few practice sketches in which you just fill the paper with the shapes you see. Look for the ovals, circles and rectangles in the arrangement.
Remember to draw what you see and not what you think you should see. But, you are the artist and you are not creating a photographic image. You can change some things to create a better balance.
STEP 5
Now, select one of your practice drawings and shade in the reflections. Make sure that you make the blacks really black and remember to leave some areas white. When you are finished you should have all the shades of gray, white and black that you used on the back of your paper.
