Input to International Standards bodies and development of domestic standards for Data Circuit Terminating Equipment (DCE) and the interfaces between DCEs and: Data Terminal Equipment (DTE); the transmission media to which they are connected (e.g., the PSTN); and other DCEs. Standards include functional, electrical, and mechanical characteristics as well as the performance testing of DCEs.

This committee is also responsible for the development of U.S. positions relating to facsimile and audiographic conferencing systems in international standards fora.
