Harveyville Chat Room Help

The Mark's Rare Comics Chat Room enables comics fans and collectors to communicate "live" with each other. Rather that posting a message and reading other postings you can post your messages and watch others post their messages. This is lively and more enjoyable than simply reading messages.

Get Started
Enter a nickname or your first name and click on the "Connect" button to enter the Chat Room.

Mark's Rare Comics Chat Room You will see a list of the nicknames of other guests in the Chat Room in the right column. You may be greeted by the other guests. You can immediately type "Hi" in the message area at the bottom of the page followed by [Enter] as a first step.

You can select a color for your message by clicking on one of the colors to the left of the message box. You may also select bold or normal black type on white background, black type on white background or underline.

Actions
The "Actions" box beneath the message box allows you to express your self as bored, smile, laughing, etc. merely by clicking on the name in the box.

Sounds
You can add sound to your message by clicking on the desired audio in the "Sounds" box, such as bell, crash, laugh, etc.

Commands
The "Commands" box allows you to select several panels:

"Avatar Panel" allows you to select from 16 icons that will appear next to your nickname.

"Session Info" provides room setting information and includes "Quit Chat" button to exit the Chat Room.

"Image Panel" offers a choice of icons that will appear next to your messages.

"MemoServ Panel" allows you to register your nickname so you can have the exclusive use of the nickname each time you return to the Chat Room. You can also send memos from this panel.

Abbreviations
Many times chatters will use abbreviations. Brackets < > or asterisks * * are often used to indicate actions or facial expressions. E.g., <snicker> or *snicker*. Some of the commonly used abbreviations:
<s> -- smile <bs> -- big smile <s> -- smile
<g> -- grin brb -- be right back cy -- see you
irl -- in real life lol -- laugh out loud wb -- welcome back
ty -- thank you btw -- by the way btdt -- been there done that
imho -- in my honest opinion ggp -- gotta go pee fas -- for a second
^5 -- high five atm -- at the moment fyi -- for your info
Emoticons
Another form of expression in chat rooms is the use of emoticons. Some of the commonly used emoticons:
:-)    smile :-))   big smile :-(    frown
;-)    wink 8-)    smile w/glasses :-D    laughing
:-O    oh! :-)~~~    French kiss {{{{name}}}}    hug
