OK, now , the effects for this movie were alright. Now, I'll give them credit in going for accuracy with this, by getting parts built by the same companies and all that, but there were still parts that were out of place. But, for the $200 million dollar budget, it kinda showed, but i've seen better. But I mean, still, you know why this movie is where it is? Not because it's a good movie (my local paper gave it 1 star), not because it had good acthing, not because it had good effect, but because of PRE-TEEN AND TEENAGE GIRLS. I mean, come on, you know they were just going multiple times just to see that moron on screen (who, by the way, I do not think would make a good Spider-man. He just dosn't fix the "everyman" effect needed for Peter Parker). I mean, come on, who can honestly sit though 3 hours of seeing people die like that OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER unless they wanted to see so pretty boy on screen. Yeh there are other movies that did this, but not the effect that they wanted to be the stupid girl in the movie.
OK, so maybe I'm bitter that it replaced Star Wars as the highest grossing movie of all time (well, Jurassic Park if you take inflation into account, but Jurassic Park is just as worthy of the number 1 spot). But hey, at least it didn't get on AFI's 100 Greatest American Movie's list (HA!), which it doesn't deserve to be. It does however deserve to get tossed into the ocean and left down there. But not near the Titanic though mind you, that wouldn't be fair to the people that died on it. Throw it in the Mariana Trench and leave the actual wreckage to National Geographic. At least they'll give the victims the dignity they deserve.
Extra Comments : Look people, you wanna watch a good 3 hour movie about something that's real, go rent Lawrence of Arabia, or Amadeus, or Shindler's List, or hell, go spend 8 bucks and go see Saving Private Ryan. But if you wanna go and spend 20 bucks to buy a copy or spend about 3 or 4 bucks to rent a copy of a movie that exploits the dead in the worst possilbe way, then by all means, see Titanic. And don't think it doesn't exploit the dead, it does because it's NOT a true story at all. If it was a TRUE story (in FULL, NOT parts of it), then it wouldn't have been so bad. And yes I'm aware that I saw it twice, but the first time was to see if it was worth the $200 million (which I don't think it was), and the second time was to put it on this web page. And just so you know, after the first time I saw it, I went to see The Postman, and let me tell you, THAT was a MUCH better movie. Hell, I cryed at the end of THE POSTMAN and not once did I feel the need to cry during Titanic. And I'm not talking about Il Postino, I'm talking about the Kevin Costner movie based on David Brin's novel.
