May 2001:
A group of about 20 former government workers, many of them military and security officials, have stepped forward to say they had witnessed evidence of aliens and unidentified flying objects and called for congressional hearings about such sightings. Many believe that the United States and other governments have known about UFOs for at least 50 years and have been keeping the information secret. There are some 400 witnesses who claim to have firsthand experience with UFO sightings or alien evidence, and are willing to testify before Congress.
Looking forward to a future in space.
Astronomers have drawn up a map showing the galactic "street" where extra-terrestrials are most likely to live. They have identified a "habitable zone", consisting of a thin ring of stars covering one percent of the Milky Way.
January 2001:
Jan. 26th - An airport in southern Siberia was shut down for an hour and a half when an unidentified flying object (UFO) was detected hovering above its runway, the Interfax news agency reported.
Jan. 24th - Six orange UFOs were seen this week in Malaysia. 38 orphans saw the objects, so did their religious teachers and villagers from neighboring Kampung Pintu Pandang.
The UFOs appeared in a straight line and were seen for about 10 minutes before they disappeared. A spokesman for the Kuala Lumpur International Airport later said that no such objects were traced.
December 2000:
A new kind search for intelligent life in the universe is in the making. Paul
Horowitz (Harvard University) and his graduate students Andrew Howard and Chip
Coldwell have begun building a specialized, 72-inch (1.8-meter) telescope that
will sweep more than half the celestial sphere to look for extremely brief
laser pulses from other civilizations.
Recent studies indicate that lasers could be as efficient as radio for
interstellar signaling. Following up on this idea, several optical SETI
projects are already under way (including one by Horowitz's group) or are
being built. But these are "targeted" searches looking only at preselected
lists of a few thousand stars at most. The new wide-sky survey will take at
least brief looks at hundreds of millions.
The telescope's main mirror will be a cheap "light bucket" of low optical
quality. At the heart of the instrument will be two parallel arrays of 1,024
high-speed photomultipliers each. These will observe a 1.6 degree-by-0.2
degree swath of sky at once. Only recently have such arrays become available.
They will be able to resolve light pulses as short as a nanosecond (a
billionth of a second). Any such brief pulses from the stars would be clearly
artificial and would represent an energy-efficient way to communicate across
thousands of light-years. The $350,000 project is being funded by The Planetary Society.
Horowitz says the instrument will examine every point on more than half the
celestial sphere for at least 48 seconds every 150 clear nights. It will sweep
the whole sky from declination +60 degrees to -20 degrees, a zone that
includes more than half of the visible Milky Way. If all goes well
observations should begin in late 2001 or 2002.

worldwide, and a comprehensive review of today's debate over intelligent life

Chris Wallace investigates the COMETA Report, a document about UFOs recently released by top military and government officials in France.
September 2000:
Are you a wanderer? A wanderer is an extraterrestrial soul that has been incarnated in a human body. This is a matter of choice by the E.T. soul, and they do it for a purpose: to assist humanity's evolution or to help humanity through some upcoming crisis, such as major earth changes. Where the contactees of earlier decades warned of nuclear war, the modern warnings are of impending earth changes.
For the first time since the 1960's Apollo moon landings, the federal government is making plans to protect Earth from any extraterrestrial life forms brought back -- on purpose -- by scientific space missions.

The search for intelligent life on other planets got a big boost Tuesday as officials unveiled plans for a massive new telescope to scan the skies - the Allen Telescope Array.
A study by the French military, just translated into English, has concluded that extraterrestrial craft probably have visited Earth. Titled 'UFOs and Defense: What Should We Prepare For?', it states: " The number of sightings, which are completely unexplained despite the abundance and quality of data from them, is growing throughout the world." The authors note that about 5% of sightings on which there is solid documentation cannot be easily attributed to earthly sources, such as secret military exercises. This 5% seem "to be completely unknown flying machines with exceptional performances that are quided by a natural or artificial intelligence." Moreover, the report says, science has developed plausible models for travel from another solar system and for technology that could be used to propel the vehicles. It assures readers that UFOs have demonstrated no hostile acts, "although intimidation maneuvers have been confirmed."
Declassified U.S. government documents show that unexplained objects with extraordinary technical capabilities pose challenges to military activities worldwide. For example, U.S. fighter jets have attempted to pursue UFOs, according to North American Aerospace Defense Command logs and Air Force documents. Further, the French report says that there have been "visits about secret installations and missile bases" and "military aircraft shadowed" in the U.S.

"Sceptics who dismiss the idea of
faster-than-light travel through "wormholes" in space may
have to think again, because new calculations based on
Einstein's general theory of relativity suggest that wormholes
large and stable enough to allow intergalactic travel really can
exist. The possibility that the cosmos is peppered with short cuts
through space and time has intrigued people ever since 1915
when German theorist Ludwig Flamm found hints of their
existence in Einstein's equations."
"Would life forms on other worlds have
to possess eyes, ears and limbs like higher
organisms on Earth? Would they have to have a
similar genetic code? Or can life exist not as we
know it? These questions may be unanswerable
now...
University of Washington paleontologist Peter Ward
believes samples will eventually have to be taken from deep
beneath the Martian surface, just as researchers on Earth
are digging deep to find Precambrian fossils. "My prediction
is we're going to find bacteria in both places." Some
theoreticians even speculate that Earth's genetic code might
have been brought in from elsewhere via meteorites or
comets. If DNA is detected in a sample from Mars, and if
scientists confirm that the sample was not contaminated
during the experiment, that would raise the questions worthy
of a science-fiction plot.
"Did we actually come from Mars at one point?"
Rothschild asked. "Mars had an extra billion years over us,
in terms of the presence of liquid water. Are we really just
staring straight into the eyes of our ancestors?"
Morrison said astrobiologists also are looking toward
the future, when our own descendants contemplate moving
beyond Earth — perhaps as an insurance policy against an
asteroid armageddon or an environmental catastrophe, or
perhaps just to explore the next frontier."
In 1961, Dr. Frank Drake proposed an equation to predict the probability of intelligent, technologically advanced civilizations in
the universe. To date, the equation has no single solution.
Astronomers Monitor 28 Million Telescope Channels for Signs of Alien Life . Astronomer Seth Shostak reports from the Arecibo radio telescope, where he's looking for signals from alien civilizations. In his latest dispatch, he explains how the massive 'scope works. When he sees something — and he has — how will he know it's truly E.T. calling?
"What form could life beyond Earth take, and where could it exist? One study indicates that the radiation driven by Jupiter's magnetic field could fuel the minimum conditions for life on Europa, an ice-covered moon. Other researchers argue that organisms beyond Earth — on Europa or elsewhere — would typically be no more complex than microbes."
"Where are the aliens? In a universe of 50 billion galaxies, each comprising a half-trillion stars, it would be remarkably self-centered to believe that our small Earth is the only place where intelligent beings strut and fret. Many folks are convinced that the extraterrestrials are out there. But could we ever prove it?">

Are We All From Mars? The intriguing possibility is that maybe we're all from Mars, or at least descendents of Martians. "We don't know where life first started," says Curt Mileikowsky, a physicist with the Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden, "but we know Mars was available for life earlier than Earth."
UFO Sightings Increasing in China.
People in Beijing and 12 other Chinese cities reported possible UFO sightings last month. UFO researchers, meanwhile, were busy looking into claims of an alien abduction in Beijing.

IF THEY WON'T COME TO US, WE'LL GO TO THEM. COSMIC MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE WILL CARRY 4.5 MILLION HAIR SAMPLES ON MISSION TO MAKE CONTACT WITH ALIENS!
By Todd Halvorson / Florida Today May 14, 1999
CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. -- In a bizarre but potentially lucrative business venture, a spacecraft carrying the DNA of up to 4.5 million people will be launched in 2001 on a mission aimed at making contact with an alien civilization. About 50,000 people -- including famed science fiction author Arthur C. Clarke and Alan Ladwig, NASA's chief of plans and policy -- already have signed up, and the company staging the flight expects that number to soar. All it takes is $60.
Encounter 2001 LLC is the company sponsoring the flight. "An awful lot of people just like the notion of making a statement, of reaching out and knowing there's at least a small chance they'll be the ones to make first contact with another civilization." As part of the deal, the company will beam up a hailing signal from a Ukrainian radio telescope on May 24. The high-power transmission will include greetings from those who have signed up for the flight. It will be repeated in February 2000 and February 2001. The cosmic calls are meant to be messages of introduction, a precursor to the mission itself.
The so-called "Millennial Voyage" will set sail from French Guiana. The cruise ship will be a small spacecraft that will carry the written messages, drawings, photos and DNA -- in the form of human hair samples -- on a journey out of the solar system. First stop will be a transfer orbit 22,300 miles above Earth. A European Ariane rocket will haul the tiny emissary there after launch from Kourou Space Center. Next will be a two-year journey to Jupiter. Caught up in the gravity of the giant planet, the 337-pound spacecraft will be flung on an unguided trajectory out of the solar system and into the unknown beyond. "It becomes kind of a cosmic message in a bottle at that point," said Chafer, of Encounte 20001 LLC. "And I think there's a lot of charm in not knowing exactly where it's going, other than it's leaving the solar system with as many as 4.5 million of our closest friends on board."

Professor Stephen Hawking, the famous physicist and author of A Brief History of Time predicts that human beings will voyage to other planets and stars. He says that if there is extra-terrestrial life more advanced than that on Earth, it would probably leave us to develop in our own primitive manner. But it is more likely that aliens would be less advanced than us, he added.
