Welcome to the Jaguar pages! Well, the Jag has been sold :( but the memories linger. . . Follow along as my 1985 Jaguar XJ6 Vanden Plas receives a restoration and a competition-quality sound system. There's even a bit of Jaguar history along the way.

The Car:
1985 Jaguar XJ6 Vanden Plas
- 4-door Series III saloon (sedan in USA-talk), top of the American model lineup.
- All leather interior, front and rear bucket seats with armrests.
- Of course, full power: Steering (telescoping wheel), brakes, windows, sunroof, mirrors, driver's seat.
- Automatic air conditioning with rear seat duct, also rear seat heat footwarmer ducts.
- Cruise control, intermittent wipers, trip computer, rear window defroster.
The Engine:
- 4.2 liter dual overhead cam straight six.
- Electronic Fuel Injection.
- 176 brake horsepower @ 5,000 rpm, 219 lb.ft torque @ 2750 rpm (USA version, Europe significantly higher).
- 3-speed Borg-Warner automatic transmission.
- 0-50 in 7.4 secs, 0-60 in 9.6 secs.
The History:
- XK engine first used in the XK120 sports car.
- Has been produced in 3.4, 2.5, 3.8 and finally 4.2 liter versions.
- 250,000 of these engines produced before the XJ line began.
- XJ line begins with the Series I in September 1968.
- V-12 engine first offered in July 1972.
- XJ Series II born in September 1973.
- XJ Series III began in March 1979.
- USA availability ended May 1987 with the introduction of the XJ40.
- V-12 XJ's continued to be built for European market.
- Total Series III production March 1979-April 1987 was 27,261, plus another 20,490 in Europe under the Daimler badge.
