John at his HP workbench

John is a degreed Member of the Technical staff at Hewlett Packard in Santa Clara California. He loves his family and he really enjoys his job.

John has loved electronics since he was first exposed to it at 8 years of age. He might not have known exactly what it was at that time, but has grown to love playing with it and thinks it's great that he can make a living of it at the same time.

When he was pretty small(before elementary school) his family moved to San Jose California and soon after that joined the Foxworthy Baptist Church. Living in the Silicon Valley he was exposed to other children and families that had parents working in the growing electronics industry there. Seeing how interesting electronics could be led John to dedicate his life to learning all that he needed in order to be a scientist or engineer. His parents encouraged him in this, but would also take him and his family on long summer vacations to explore the western and central United States to see historical sites and the beauty of nature, of course they usually didn't make it far without John getting car sick, but we can do without that part of the story.

One of the choices John made to begin his electronics education while still in high school, was to attend the local vocational school in the afternoons after regular classes were completed. This turned out to be not only very educational for a young man, but led to involvement with the Explorer Scouts at a division of Hewlett Packard. This experience at HP gave John a lot of direction and a good summer job to boot. Working on computer systems was just the thing for a high school senior to keep him out of trouble and on the cutting edge of technology. Some of John's coworkers were Alumni of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, so after trying really hard(with a little help from his dad), he got in to the Electronics Engineering program. All the while working at HP during the summers, learning what real engineers needed to know to do the job.

After graduation, John got a job at the Santa Clara division of Hewlett Packard and currently works on motion control system electronics. But that's not the only thing he has to keep him busy.

The members of the church nominated John to be a Deacon in the church body, and at the same time, he started teaching the Young Married sunday school class. These two jobs are more than enough to keep him busy, but he also throws in a little time working on the sound system and trying to get the auditorium stage lighting just right. Fortunately his job at HP encourages him to work on projects that will teach him electronics, so the church has benefitted from his desire to make a new little widget to accomplish something in the auditorium lights or sound system.
