Advocacy Committee

The CEO’s Advocacy Committee brings together a diverse group of coastal scientists, conservationists, and educators to share information and identify coastal resource issues that need attention. The committee studies and monitors these issues and, when appropriate, generates a wide variety of persuasive educational information for government officials and legislators.

The Advocacy Committee has examined coastal conservation issues such as:

  • surface water withdrawal permit requests by private water brokers
  • a related plan to inject chemically-treated river water into the Floridan Aquifer
  • Savannah Harbor Expansion Project (SHE)
  • protecting the integrity of the Coastal Marshlands Protection Act
  • the Okefenokee Education and Research Center (OERC)
  • National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit violations, including sewage discharges into coastal waters
  • proposed changes and exemptions to the Clean Water Act
  • Heritage Fund legislation
