91 TRUMPETS
Before I finish and post the complete study of 91 Trumpets I wanted to make the study known so that others could look into Scripture and study this passage on their own. It would be interesting to see if we can find many of the same spiritual meanings within this parable of the Bible. I'll list a few paragraphs from my incomplete study to give you a small idea of the direction I am going in.
In 1 Cor 15:52 we read about the end of time. "In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound and the dead shall be raised incorruptible and we shall be changed". Why does God say that there will be a trumpet blast at the end of time? Why does He say it is the last trumpet blast? God is clearly stating that there is a trumpet connected with the end of this world and our eternal resurrection (1 Cor 15:51-58).
Again, in 1 Thes 4:13-18, God speaks about the end of time. A trumpet is used to signal the end of time. There is another mention of trumpets in the Bible and this deals with the year of Jubilee found in Lev 25:9-54 where God explains this feast to us. It started on the 10th day of the 7th month in the Jewish year. The Jewish calendar was different from ours and time keeping over the ages has been done in numerous ways. Some observed the seasonal rotation of the stars, some the phases of the moon, some the changing of seasons.
In the Jewish sacred year calendar the 7th month would be Tishri (Lev 23:39) (Ethanim Ex 23:16) or perhaps the 15th of September thru the 15th of October in our current calendar. In Lev 25 God said that once Israel had come into the Promised Land they were to keep track of time as follows: verse 3, the first 6 years were to be fruitful years of harvest from their gardens, verse 4, the 7th year was to be a sabbath year and there was to be no harvest. They would do well enough during those first 6 years to live on the harvest of them.
But this breaks time into one week as I see it, 6 days of labor, followed by a day of rest (Ex 31:17). Sounds just like our current time keeping, 6 days followed by Sunday. God is explaining His time keeping to us. God continues His time keeping and tells us that Israel was to count 7 sabbaths of years from the time they first entered the land (verse 8), this would now be 49 years time. During that time they would observe a sabbath every 7 years continuing the earlier mentioned calendar. While they observed the 49 years by following the 6 years, 7th year calendar, they were to hallow the 50th year. This would bring us to a Jubilee year and a holy year.
Looking at Joshua 6 again we find that during each circling of the city, each priests is to blow his trumpet (6:3, 4, 6, 8, 14). Remember that God calls the believer priests in 1 Pe 2:5. The priests here are a picture of the believers as they send forth the Gospel of life in heaven or death in hell. This happens during the first 6 days. 7 priests blowing the rams horn each for 6 days = 42 times. Joshua is most likely a picture of Christ and we are the priests He instructs. The number 7 points to Christ, He was the 7th to come into the life of the Samaritan woman's life in John 4. The priests bear the Jubilee horns. In verse 7 it says the people pass on and compass the city. But the words pass on can also be translated as proclaim. What did they proclaim? Nothing, only the sound of the trumpet (God's voice) was heard by the people.
And indeed we proclaim nothing on our own. If the trumpet is God's voice, His Law, then all the world hears is His Gospel as we herald it, Mr 16:15, Mt 28:19, the very breath we breathe could represent the Spirit of God working through us. God confirms this in verse 10, "Jesus commanded the church, saying, ye shall not shout, nor make any noise with your voice, neither shall any word proceed out of your mouth until the day I bid you shout". Paraphrased but I think that may very well be one of the teachings here. The unsaved should only hear God's voice, we cannot save on our own, we merely bring His Gospel as servants. This ties in very nicely with the previous teaching that the trumpet is a representation of God's voice, the Law of God, everyone hears it. It's not always understood but, we are all guilty of at least hearing the trumpet's sound, spiritually, our sinful ears cannot understand more than that but this is our sin problem, not God's. Everyone hears the trumpet is the teaching of this parable.
Jerico represents the earth and the priests are a picture of all believers. They circle the city 6 times in 6 days and 7 priests blow the trumpet each day. This gives us 6 x 12 hours in a day (Jn 11:9) or 72 hours in the first 6 days of warning. Isn't it interesting how God uses time as we know it to teach us about the Gospel. Work while it is day Jesus tells us, how long is this day, 12 hours, 24 hours? Does he mean the daytime hours or the whole day. God has hidden much w/i the parables of the Bible and has instructed the beleiver to search out these hidden things.
