Would you like to learn more about a strategy or activity you've seen on my website? I enjoy visiting other schools and districts to share these strategies in person. You can choose from my available workshops, or contract with me to create a unique workshop just for you! I always prepare an extensive packet of workshop handouts, and my presentations are active and engaging. Teachers walk away with specific strategies that they can implement in their classrooms the next day. I guarantee that your time will not be wasted!

Teacher Workshops:

The Dynamic Duo: Putting the Punch in Math Instruction

We teach, but are students learning? This workshop takes a fresh look at Mastery Learning and Cooperative Problem Solving, two powerful strategies designed to ensure math success. Mastery learning, a tried-and-true approach, enables all learners to master basic skills before tackling complex math tasks. Cooperative problem-solving improves social skills and provides opportunities to deepen mathematical understanding. In this workshop, participants will actively explore practical, easy-to-use strategies to close achievement gaps and enable ALL students to excel.

Balanced Literacy

Few educators debate the value of phonics versus whole language; most now agree that children learn to read best through a balanced approach to literacy instruction. This interactive workshop will provide practical strategies for implementing a balanced literacy program organized around 3 components: whole group instruction, small group instruction, and literacy centers. Participants will leave the workshop with the confidence and know-how to set up and manage this 3-part literacy framework.

Literature Circles

Kids talk about movies, video games, and music, but do they talk about books? Learn research-based strategies guaranteed to add excitement to your reading program. Meet the needs of all learners through Literature Circles, a technique that will motivate and challenge your students. This workshop provides practical strategies for starting and managing Literature Circles in your own classroom.

Hands-on, Minds-on Science

Science education is once again taking the spotlight as we struggle to meet the No Child Left Behind mandates for science testing. As a result, we are discovering that our children lack even the most basic science knowledge and are unable to apply science concepts to real-life situations. Using hands-on strategies is not enough to overcome this deficit, unless we mentally engage students in applying what they are learning. This workshop adds the “minds-on” component to hands-on science instruction. Participants will be actively involved in learning powerful science teaching methods designed to delight and engage their students.
