AZIMUTH / ELEVATION CALCULATOR

FOR USA SATELLITES

Use this satellite Locator (calculator) to find out the Elevation and the GEOGRAPHIC AZIMUTH at your City in the USA.......You have to add or subtracts the value of the magnetic declination, as per the Magnetic Declination MAP to get the MAGNETIC AZIMUTH or the compass heading.

The Azimuth / Elevation Calculator

(The Satellite Locator Program)

The satellites are "parked" approximately 22,300 miles above the equator. In reality, the satellites travel from west to east, but to us on Earth they appear stationary because they match the exact speed of the Earth’s rotation. (This is a geostationary orbit.) If you stand up now, turn towards the southern hemisphere, and tilt your head up to the heavens, you’ll be looking in the general direction of our satellite.

This screen calculates the azimuth and elevation angle based on your city and state, your city latitude and longitude will be displayed as well as the satellite position . Please note that azimuth is based on true magnetic north. You must adjust your compass to accommodate the magnetic deviation for your area. Remember to add or subtract your magnetic deviation based on the simple rule "East is least, and West is best". I.e., if your location is east of magnetic zero then your actual compass heading is less than the true reading, therefore you will have to add the magnetic deviation difference. Certain types of compasses can be adjusted manually for the magnetic deviation, and will always point to the true north.
