This web site
features both serious and humorous writings
in a number of fields, including politics,
social issues, science, philosophy, and
religion. As the name Tangents
suggests, the predominant perspective is one
apart (refreshingly or challengingly so,
depending upon your own viewpoint) from
today's mainstream. The tone varies,
from factual to whimsical to sarcastic, but
generally avoids the "mad-dog"
attacks typical of some other activist sites.
Because the
primary focus here is on ideas expressed in
text, graphics are rather subdued compared to
many other web sites. This serves to
reduce distraction and eyestrain, as well as
to allow faster transmission over modem
connections. Even so, there has been an
effort to provide a visually pleasing
environment, as well as navigation MENUS and
search TOOLS to make it easy for you to find
what you're after.
Although I
cannot guarantee complete factual accuracy of
any item (particularly any written with
humorous intent), some visitors have found
this site (and its parent site, The
Gent's Lounge) to be a useful source of
information and opinion. In most cases,
material posted here is available for citing
in other works, under standard provisions of
the general copyright notice. There the
researcher will even find a sample MLA-format
entry for use on the "Works Cited"
page of an academic paper, as well as
guidelines for accreditation in Internet news
groups and elsewhere. (A few articles,
particularly those intended for later
publication in print, have special
restrictions that can be viewed by clicking
the notice at the top of the page in
question.)
Finally, this
site seeks your input. It thrives on
ideasnot just the author's, but yours
as well. Indeed, some of the best ideas
here have been sparked by my guests!
How ever much you may enjoy reading these
articles, the experience becomes far more
dynamic and enriching when you also
participate actively. Have an opinion,
question, suggestion, or gripe? Let us
hear it! Transform the monologue into
dialogue! You can use any of the media
in FEEDBACK to present your ideas, whether to
your fellow guests or to me specifically.
By now, you have
an inkling of what this site is about, and
are ready to get to "the good
stuff"or to retreat in terror,
as the case may be. So...
