Minnesota Free-Mo Modelers -- Commercial Scrap

Commercial Scrap is based on a metal recycling scrap yard located along Hiawatha Avenue in Minneapolis, MN. The scrap yard was originally served by the Milwaukee Road. Today, it is serviced by the Minnesota Commercial. The facility generates about 20 gondola carloads of recyclable scrap a month. The scrap can be in loose pieces, shredded or baled. A high powered hydraulic baler is used to crush metal objects into square bales. The long one-armed debris handler has a powerful claw or a large magnet that can move the scrap around the yard or into rail cars.
