TAILWAGGERS DATES & EVENTS -

April 21, 2006 Welcome All! Training Classes have started for the beginners of the club! Thank you to Cora Painter, Alaina Ditmer, & Jessica Kossler for giving me a hand with the new 4-Hers! Please welcome Autumn with her German Shepherd, Katria & her Great Dane (I will get her name right one of these days), Jillian with her Maltese, Marlenia with her Beagle Terrier mix, Savannah and her Border Collie mix, Kayla and her Golden, & Lucas also with a Golden Retriever. We will also have a “special” adopted 4-Her this year—Her name is Kaylynn and she has a sheltie named Fred. WELCOME ALL!!

I am really excited about the growth and changes occurring in the club this year. I also am absolutely FLOORED by the Success of the flower sale—YOU GUYS PROVED ME WRONG with a record of SALES!!! Congratulations to all you. OUTSTANDING EFFORT!!! Thank you to Sally for tabulating and making our flower orders.

This year we welcome 3 New advisors and a personal THANK YOU to all of them for signing on and helping with the club. I truly appreciate the time & effort of Sally, Debbie, & Susan & they are also new members of the dog 4-H committee.

Reminder to you all—IF you need Extra help with your dog- YOU have my phone number and I am available to help you. It is really going to be a great year with lots of activities & FUN!!!

May 18th - Shot Papers & Copy of dog license due to Kathleen. BortelloI is REQUIRED. Shots are to be recorded by Vet on form from Extension Office. Most area vets have this paper on file, but you must ask for it. IF your Vet does not have this form, please get it from Kathleen or the Extension Office. You can also download a copy from the State 4H Dog site. We will be organizing a Vaccination clinic again - Date to be announced.

Pick up flowers at Kathleen's house on Tuesday, May 2nd. Adults will need to help sort flowers and orders on this date. Flowers are to be delivered before Mother's Day. Any 4Her who sells $150 or more will get to go to Colette's Pet Salon and use her equipment to groom and bath their dog courtesy of Tailwaggers.

4H Dog Day Camp - May??? Will cover all dog projects. This is fun, educational, non-competitive event that will benefit every 1st - 10 yr. member You will be bringing your dog!!

May 20th Dog Show sponsored by Darke Co. Dog Committee This is at the Fairgrounds. I will have flyers. I would like to see 100% attendance at this show. The Lima dog show is sometime in July and it is an nice show.

July 15th - 8:30 a.m. STATE FAIR SELECTION Location is in the Hog Barn. It will need to be cleaned & I need HELP! Queen and King applications must be turned into me prior to this date. If you wish to run for Princess, your red book must be completed in order to run.

Aug. 18-26th - DARKE CO. FAIR

Dogs on stand & King and Queen Contest Aug. 18th, 6 - 9:00.
SHOWMANSHIP Dog Show - Tuesday, Aug. 22nd, 9:00 a.m. until ???
OBEDIENCE - Wed. Aug. 23rd 9:00 a.m. - ???
Parade and Fun Day Aug. 24th, 9:30 - ???

DOG EQUIPMENT NEEDED FOR SHOWS/FAIR: Lawn chairs, water bowl & water, show clothes, clean tennis shoes, dog brushes and scissors, show leashes for obedience and showmanship leashes, choke chain, blanket or rug for dog to lay on, dog bait if used & a GOOD ATTITUDE!!!! GOOD LUCK!

NEW RULES and INFO. about STATE FAIR
Experience Showmanship classes, due to a change in State Fair Rules will be asked questions from RED BOOK, SKILLATHON BOOK, AKC COMPLETE DOG BOOK FOR KIDS, and COMPLETE DOG CARE MANUAL by Bruce Fogle. Club has purchased SKillathon book and will check into 2 other resource books.

NEW FOR 2006
Sub Novice & Grad levels automatically attend State Fair, - They do not have to qualify to attend. ALL 4Hers must participate in skillathon at State Selection. Remember, NO BAIT or TOYS of any kind are permitted in your possession while on the show during OBEDIENCE SHOW -- this includes the holding area. If you want to treat your dog or use the restroom after individual exercises, you MUST ask to leave the holding area and leave the show floor completely.

STATE FAIR DATES Monday, 8/7/06 - All Showmanship; Tuesday, 8/8/06 - Sub Novice; Wednesday, 8/9/06 - Novice & Pet Care; Thursday, 8/10/06 - Grad, Open, Grad Open & Utility - Posters; Friday, 8/11/06 - Rally Obedience
