Sweet Lorraine

On March 21, 2001, my dear sister, Lorraine DeAngelo Augustine, lost a valiant battle to breast cancer at the age of 39. She left behind a son, Joseph.

We miss her terribly.

It has taken me 5 years to feel comfortable creating a web page in her memory, but she was a dedicated Middle School English teacher, loved by her students, who are now on their way to college.

As part of their grief counseling, her students were asked to put together a book of letters to
Lorraine and her family. Below is one which really tells her story best:

Mrs. Augustine will always be remembered, and not forgotten. Her contribution to our school has been amazing. She was my 7th grade English teacher last year, and she always did her best to help me out, as well as the other students.

I remember when she would read us famous quotes and give me advice whenever I was in trouble. She would always tell me not to worry and everything was going to be all right. I would always argue with her and say that things were not going to get better, but as usual, she would always turn out to be right.

She would always smile and tell jokes and even show me the latest country line dancing moves (even though I didn't know what I was doing). She was always strong and outgoing, and never showed us that she was in pain or that she was actually suffering. Instead she would smile at us, showing us that she was all right and that there was nothing to worry about.

I hope that everyone got to know and befriend Mrs. Augustine like I did. I never met anyone as smart, funny and trusting as she was. She was always passionate about her work and always talked about her adorable son Joseph. She will always be with me in spirit because I know that she was in a better place where there is no such thing as suffering, worry, or pain. I know that she is looking down on us and she is going to be happy forever. One day I hope that we would all see here again, and I send my prayers to all of you because I know you will miss her as much as I will.

Rest in peace Mrs. Augustine. We will always remember you.
