WORKLIFE PAGES
...being some chronicles relating to what I do for money in this world...

"badlands, you gotta live it everyday
let the broken hearts stand
as the price you've gotta pay
we'll keep pushin' till it's understood
and these badlands start treating us good"

~ Bruce Springsteen ~

gotta keep remembering... poor man wants to be rich, rich man wants to be king, king is never satisfied till he has everything... and some wise men and new born fools don't play the game and that's how to win happiness and satisfaction and peace and true inner security... yup, just gotta remember J

anyway, phew... after working the usual 33+ hours weekend (not to mention the extra 17 hours I did on Friday) I find my way back to a bed and almost get to sleep when some more emergencies pop up and keep me awake all day...

still, this worklife continues somehow...

for as I am finally ready to crash after staying awake for a challenging day bouncing from Mina's to Raspy's to fixing my car that died on route, an extra night shift is offered and I grab it so I'll have at least some overtime this week... and then, during the night, the day shift is offered and so I have two extra shifts for this week and add in two for last week plus some extra hours here and there and this should be another 120+ hour two week period...

good news, but phew...

averaging 60 hours a week (actully at least 70 including travel time) still seems like a vacation compared to what I did in 1999, but the added challenge is not having a home base to plug into... bouncing from sleep space to sleep space, shower to shower, and most challenging of all, writing space to writing space makes rejuvenation much more challenging so fatigue is much deeper...

so ok, let's take a closer look at the hours and see what this last work marathon was like since it feels like the biggest push since 1999...

Thurs-Fri 11:00PM to 7:30AM (9)
Friday 3PM to 11:30PM (9)
Saturday 7AM to 11:30PM (17)
Sunday 3PM to 7:30AM (17)
Monday all day and evening emergencies (12+)
Mon-Tues 11:00PM to 4:30PM (18)...
and then add a few hours travel time at least...

considering that there are 114 hours between 11PM Thursday and 5PM Tuesday and I worked 70, drove at least 5, and dealt with heat and emergencies for 12+ leaving maybe 25 hours (and considering I did need to eat and bath and decompress an hour or two each day, that left maybe 15 hours sleep, and broken sleep in 95 degree heat at that)... no wonder I am still a zombie...

still, the savings grows even as the bills are paid and new sudden bills pop up, so the goals are being met and that is good... I am in catch-up mode... and that's what worklife is about, after all... paying for the rest of life...
