A Journal of Sorts

"well you've cracked the sky, scrapers fill the air
but, will you keep on building higher
'til there's no more room up there?
will you make us laugh, will you make us cry?
will you tell us when to live, will you tell us when to die?
I know we've come a long way,
we're changing day to day,
but tell me, where do the children play?"

another weekend over, need for sleep high and yet... other stuff happens... Mina needs help as her brother and neice are moving in and then Raspy calls cuz there's a crisis over at his place so I head over there and on route my car dies (now mid-afternoon, 90+ degrees, on a new road, still no sleep)...

and the universe provides... a park ranger mowing the grass stops to help and offers to go get gas for me... as he goes to get his gas can and car, Mina rides by and sees me and I give her money to buy a gas can and gas so the ranger doesn't have to... two other people stop to ask if I need help while I'm waiting... great vibs from humanity today... sigh...

it wasn't gas... so I call AAA and have to pay for the tow cuz I already used up my allotment of free towing (ironically, for Mina and Raspy's cars) for the year... I spoke to the owner of the garage by cell phone and decided to trust he might really look at the car and really try to get me on the road asap (it was after 4PM so odds of my sleeping in the car at the station are strong as there's too much stuff in the car to leave it)... challenges...

. o O ( metallic sounds of car tinkering ) O o .

ok, so I tentatively found a mechanic (though not in a great location) and I can feel good about... the owner and another mechanic spent 45 minutes tracing wiring and checking the car out and diagnosed the problem to be a burned out emergency fuel cut off switch (kind of like a circuit breaker) and they were able to order and get a new one and put it in before closing time (6PM)... so $400 later (not all for the car, we had a few crisis today remember?), I head back to Raspy's to help (and maybe get some sleep?)...

whatdya know, work calls... an extra shift tonight... and last week finished off with extra shifts... phew, that'll be... Thursday 11:00PM to 7:30AM (8+)... Friday 3PM to 11:30PM (8+)... Saturday 7AM to 11:30PM (16+)... Sunday 3PM to 7:30AM (16+)... and a long day running around to Mina's, Raspy's, and fixing the car (16+)... now I'm off to Monday 11:00PM to 7:30PM (8+)... and then add a few hours travel time at least... sleep will sure feel good tomorrow if I can find a place to get some...

. o O ( sounds of calculating ) O o .

that'll be at least 80 hours... there are about 100 hours between the start of this particular marathon period and the end, so I have reached a new peak in pushing this body and life goes on?... pant pant pant, phew...

so I'm off to work again... how are you? J
