...THERE'S ALWAYS HOPE... (I HOPE...) THERE'S ALWAYS HOPE... (I HOPE...) THERE'S ALWAYS HOPE... (I HOPE...) THERE'S ALWAYS HOPE...
this games journal garden is still a work in progress but I'll ramble on here anyway J more to follow later today Wanderers 3 (all my teams are called Wanderers and I just figured out that numbering them might have been helpful in distinguishing between them as I ramble on about them) moved into a tie for first place... yes, after fluttering around between second and fourth all season and coming on through August, some last minute player pick-ups have inched this scrappy team out of the pack and closer and closer to first until today, for the second time this season, Wanderers 3 has a share of first place... rising to 93 points and hopefully, still climbing... must be learning something, huh? J Wanderers 2 remains solidly in first place in the other league, still with 100 points, 20 points ahead... a very quiet, relatively inactive leage that became boring and too easy to lead... at least it guarantees me a spot in a winners league (leagues reserved for managers who finished first in the previous season)... it'll be a real test of whatever skills I might have next year... remind me to play, huh? J and the first Wanderers team, my first try at drafing and managing a Fantasy team, remains in third place (amazingly still climbing), four points ahead of Sam (roommate) and closer to the leaders than I've been since the first month of the season... 68, 67.5, and Wanderers 2 at 61... with the collusion between four of the managers that left two of them on top and two on the bottom, even getting close is impressive... Sam's team is at 57 and behind him, there's teams at 52, 49, and down to the last team that's close to last in every category with just 23 points... since the last two teams basically gave their best players to the first two teams (the four managers work offline in the same office), the standings are to be expected... a predictable leagues is as boring as an inactive one... and then there are the fantasy football leagues... luckily, one week a season does not make... unfortunately, I won't have six months to learn how to play and get to know the players, but hopefully I will make the right moves and have fun... these leagues are head-to-head, so standings count for more than points... it seems that points break ties in the standings... so far I have three leagues going... in the first I lost big time... scary, for the moment, but just one week... my primary RB, Curtis Martin, blew out his ankle and my star QB, Kurt Warner, threw for no touchdowns... Edgerrin James was disappointing and my receivers suck, to say the least... and my premier defense, Pittsburgh, bombed in their first outing... after one week, I am at the bottom of that ten team league with the one loss and just 24 points... are we having fun yet? J in the second Football league I won and finished in third place based on points... ten teams, five gotta win, five gotta lose... I'm among the five winners and have 71 points, and that secures third place... Brett Favre helped, but Marshall Faulk had a disappointing week... and again, my WR were little help with Jerry Rice leading the way... Tony Gonzalez, my TE, earned more points than all three WR combined... that is sad... I went with Miami's defense and left New England's on the bench, big mistake... but at least the team I put together earned more points than my opponents team for this week... a win is a win, as the old cliche goes... gotta do better... I am not sure how yet though, since there are fewer players and therein fewer options for a coach... hopefully I will figure out something quickly J both of those leagues, like the three baseball leagues, are played in the Yahoo Fantasy Sports arena... the third football league is on nfl.com and there I lost the first week 78 to 84... frustratingly close, and it leaves me tied for tenth place (out of twelve teams)... in this league I have two of the best receivers (Randy Moss and Marvin Harrison), but they had disappointing weeks and Dante Culpepper might not be a good enough fantasy QB and my RBs are long shots (Deuce McCallister, Jamal Lewis, and Antowain Smith)... and that, my faithful friends, sums up the fantasy sports report for today... I wonder what fascinating details and excitement I left out that would have captivated your attention all the more... any ideas?... hey, wake up J |
