Sussex Cyclists LAB Club of the Year

The League of American Bicyclists has named Sussex Cyclists a "Club of the Year" for 2008. This selection is based largely on our Bicycle Safety Check Point Program that we conduct with DelDOT, Delaware State Police, Safe Kids and the Traffic Management Assoc. Check points are set up in the early summer months along a busy, dangerous road and cyclists, many of whom are international students working here in the summer, are stopped and given lights, safety reflecting tape and helmets. Minor bike adjustments are made if necessary. These stops have made cyclsits and motorists more alert and accidents have declined.

Next Club Meeting February 12, 2009, 7:00pm, St. Edmond's Church Hall, St. Charles Street

This is our annual election club meeting. It would be good for the organization to have some different people interested in becoming officers. While our officers have done a fine job it is healthy for the organizaton to have a change especially in the top positions...like president. Bike Survey for April 24th Bike Summit

Bicycle riding, as a form of transportation, physical activity or recreation is an important solution to many urban issues from global warming to obesity. A Delaware Bicycle Summit planned for April 24th will bring together bicycle advocates, advocates for healthy communities and interested others to network and to plan a healthier, bikable future for Delaware. This survey will be used to better plan the Delaware Bicycle Summit so that is tailored to meet your needs.

The survey takes just a few minutes to complete and can be accessed at either of the two links below:

Bike DelDOT site. While at the Bike Deldot pages you can also view .pdf files of bike maps by county, and order FREE copies of these maps.

Alternatively you can go to the Wilmapco site for the survey.

Ride Leaders Needed

Ride Leaders are urgently needed. The job is easy - show up and be the main contact with the riders present. The riders will even help with the directions (where to turn, stop, etc.) Just field questions and make the go/no go decisions. That's why the pay is so high. Call Jack at 945-3360>

The Club Picnic

The club picnic was a success due to the usual fine planing and execution of Jack and Betty Boettger. Make sure you check out the rides this week.

CLUB PICNIC 7-19-2008

Put July 19 on your calendar. This is the date of the annual club picnic and 35 and 50 mile rides from Jack's home. Rides start at 9:00 AM, picnic at 1:00PM. Bring your spouse, significant other or friend and have a good time. Cost is $7.00 per person with the excess monies contributed to the Sussex Cyclists "Pit Stop" program. Call Betty Boettger 945-3360 if you can help. Betty has the details. Sign up by calling Jack or Betty at the number above. We need a head count to know how much to buy. Last year this was the premier club event. Don't miss it.
