Hello
and welcome to my site. My name is Skeeter & I am a 5 year old Pomeranian.
I wanted to be a show dog & complete my AKC championship. In fact
I was halfway through my requirements to achieve my championship, when
it hit: Alopecia X. At about a year old, my coat started thinning. I
was retired from the show ring and neutered.
Although
Alopecia X is a medical condition that causes me to lose my hair, it
only affects me "cosmetically". At this time, there is no
known cause or cure for Alopecia X; it affects many breeds of dogs in
the Spitz family. It is not contagious, so people and other animals
can't get it from me.
There are some wonderful doctors researching this condition, and we
hope to have some answers in the future. Until then, I may not have
a "champion" title at the beginning of my name, but I'll always
be a champion to my owners. I've also gone onto bigger and better things.
After
I retired from the show ring, my mom decided she wanted me to get my Canine
Good Citizen certificate. We signed up for classes at Hidden Valley Obedience
Club (HVOC) and off we went. I quickly completed the requirements to prove
I was a "Canine Good Citizen" by passing a 10-requirement test.
The requirements include
sitting politely while being petted, allowing a stranger to brush me,
sitting, staying, and coming when called. You can read more about the
Canine Good Citizen test at www.akc.org.
After
I received my CGC certificate, we decided to play in the Rally ring.
Rally is a new sport where the owner/dog go along a course and perform
the action of a variety of signs.
Everyone
kept commenting about what a wonderful temperament I had. So we decided
to look into me becoming a Therapy Dog. I worked very hard, and I passed
the test & all the other requirements. Now I get to visit patients
in three of our local hospitals. I have a great life!!!

Resume
SunGlo's Havin A Black N Tan-Trum, RN
Aka "Skeeter"
Name-Skeeter Felix
Breed-Pomeranian
Color-Black & Tan
Age-4 years (Birthday December 8, 2003)
Height-8 inches
Weight- 5 1/4lbs
Special skills or titles: Canine Good Citizen Certificate,
Rally Novice title and Registered Therapy Dog with Therapy Dogs Inc.
History: Skeeter started his career as an AKC conformation
dog. He had almost accumulated all the points needed to complete his
AKC championship requirement when he developed a condition called Alopecia
(hair loss). Alopecia is a problem that affects many Spitz breeds, including
Pomeranians. At this time there is no known cause/cure for it. Skeeter
& his family participate in research studies to try to find some answers
about this condition. Alopecia is not contagious. Although Alopecia
affects Skeeter in a cosmetic way, it is a medical condition that causes
the hair loss. Because of the Alopecia, Skeeter was neutered & is now
training to compete in Rally & Obedience trials. Although we are sad
that he was not able to complete his Championship title by AKC standards,
he is a champion to us.
Work Experience: Skeeter is a registered therapy dog with
Therapy Dogs Incorporated. He visits patients at Kaiser Hospital, Sharp
Coronado Hospital, Sharp Convalescent Center, and Sharp Memorial Hospital.
He also reads with children at the Public Library one day a month. Skeeter
was also one of many beautiful dogs who appeared in the Animal Planet
AKC/Eukanuba National Championship commercial December 2006, co-staring
with our favorite sheltie, Chorus.
Work Goals: To share a smile, and bring happiness to others.
Skeeter's hobbies: Practicing obedience, car rides, walks,
taking toys away from my brothers just because he can, long naps, and
monitoring the sidewalk in front of the house for uninvited visitors.
