Installation of the 7500 / 8500 is very tidy and only takes about 1/2 hour.

First, and very important - WASH YOUR HANDS.  You don't want to soil your pretty headliner now do you?

Power was tapped from the Universal Transmitter 12v+ wire (Green/Blue) located in the overhead console, this is a switched source so the detector is not always on.  Removal of the panel cover is easy.  Carefully pry down on the rear of the square upholstered part (it has the roof switch in it).  It will pop off.  Then pull down on the back side of the light console and it will pop off.  Remember, if you do anything that gets your hands dirty, wash them so you don't mess up the headliner!!    For pictures of the connections click here  (note: recently this link has not been working - it is not one of my sites and out of my control)

The wire is on the passenger side and is wrapped in black tape, it has a plastic connector on the end that plugs into the garage door opener - It is easy to find.  I used the power tap that Passport provided to connect to the wire.   I was going to use phone wire for the power supply, but wasted about an hour trying to strip the wire and make the connections.  I wound up using the Passport remote wiring harness.  This meant stuffing quite a bit of wire up into the headliner, but it all fit.  If you do use phone wire red is 12v+ and green is ground (these are the center two wires).  The other two are not used.

At first I was lamenting the lack of a visor clip, but the suction mounts are very stable and the detector does not wobble at all.  An added bonus is the visor is available for the passenger's use. The antennae 'see' just below the upper dark shading of the windshield.

The two top buttons are difficult to access, but they are mainly used for programming the unit and don't normally need to be touched.

I think the Passport is much more attractive than the Valentine, and  at about 1/2 have the price and very comparable performance it was the perfect choice for my Ci & M3.
