The Elementals
by Miranda Hawkins

This was a project for my AP Art class. We had to draw representations of the four elements and then write a poem to go with them. Bigger versions of the images can be found in my gallery.

We are the Elementals
Daughters of the ways of old
Earth, Air, Water, Fire
We cannot be controlled

EARTH
I command the blades of grass
And the giant redwood trees
No men oppose my rooted will
For I am easy to displease

AIR
I command the zephyrous wind
And the gusting gale
The chill you find on winter days
And the breeze by which you sail

WATER
I command the gentle waves
And the harsh typhoon
Sea creatures bow as I swim by
Singing a siren's tune

FIRE
I command the candle light
And the raging fire
I dance among the flickering flames
Which make music like a choir

We are the Elementals
Daughters of the ways of old
Earth, Air, Water, Fire
We cannot be controlled
