Ruins of my Mind
by Miranda Hawkins

Just another Creative Writing assignment. It's really not too bad and has a bit of visual imagery, too. :)

My body lives,
But inside
I'm dying.
Thoughts wander aimlessly,
Like deflated helium balloons
Stirred by a wayward wind.
Lacerated by shattered memories,
The shards of a broken mirror
I weep tears of blood.
Emotions hang in tatters
Like left-over streamers
From a party, long forgotten.
I've lost myself
To the destruction,
And I fear I'll never return.
Helplessly,
I walk,
Unable to control the desire
To stand at the brink of eternity
And look down.
Suddenly,
Without warning,
Ground I thought was safe,
Crumbles,
Destroyed by the weight of my fears,
And I plunge into darkness.
Catch me!
I'm falling
Into the abyss of my insanity.
Help me!
Help me to escape
The ruins of my mind.
