Multicolor was introduced in 1928. It was made by applying up to four different glazes (rose, persian yellow, silver green, and colonial blue) by hand in bands around each piece of pottery. Once fired the bands would merge together slightly causing a "dripping" effect. Three different styles were made. They are regular "Multicolor" which used four glazes (rose, persian yellow, silver green and colonial blue), "Multicolor Light" which used three glazes (rose, persian yellow, and silver green), and "Multicolor Dark" which also used three glazes (blue, persian yellow, and silver green). This pattern was replaced in 1931 with the introduction of Sunburst ("Rainbow") another multicolor glaze that is quite similiar. The main differences between the two is that for Sunburst the rose glaze was replaced by tangerine and instead of hand painting the bands of color, the pieces were typically dipped. These changes were probably made by Stangl in an effort to reduce time and cost. Overall Multicolor is very hard to find. It was made for only three years and very little was bought each year due to an extremly high selling price.
