This month's feature is one of Stangl Pottery's porcelain birds; the 3728 Scissor-tailed flycatcher. Introduced in 1944 the porcelain birds were extremely high quality and were very intricately designed and decorated. As their advertising flyer states "Faithfull reproduction and close attention to detail and coloring by Stangl craftsmen have captured the likeness of each subject, making every figure a masterpiece of American ceramics." Not only were they extremely well made, but they were also extremely expensive. The scissor-tailed flycatcher sold for an amazing one-hundred and fifty dollars. Seventy-five times the price of the more common pottery birds that Stangl pottery was also selling at the same time. |
