Stamping on dominoes is an easy and fun technique that makes for an
unusual personal gift, placed in a small gift bag or in a decoupaged box.
You can stamp one domino, or several with a particular theme like
an
Asian or a Whimsical theme.
Don't be intimidated by all the text below, it's actually very simple,
acrylic paint the white part of domino, stamp, embellish, clear coat
with Krylon, clean the back, and you're done!
Begin by painting the white part and the sides of the dominoes with acrylic
paint such as Delta Ceramcoat or Deco Art Metallics. My favorites and
easiest to use are FolkArt Metallics and shiny Delta Pearls.
Use a foam brush and two to three thin coats of undiluted paint. Wait until
thoroughly dry. Stamp your dominoes just like on a card, and if you have
a steady hand curl the stamp around to the edges of the domino
so as to continue the image on the sides.
Pigment inks work best, because if you make a mistake you can quickly
remove the ink with an alcohol-free baby wipe. Permanent ink is just that,
permanent!, and cannot be removed once stamped on the acrylic paint.
Let the stamped ink dry, then embellish your art with a gold, silver, or copper
18kt Gold Leaf pen, or Irridescent Gelly Roll pens. The leaf pens can be used
to draw a frame around your stamped art as well, like in the Gibson Girl and
Cherub dominoes above. A neat effect is painting over your stamped
domino with a thin coat of Folk Art Sparkles Pearl Glitter paint.
Once your stamped art is dry, place your dominoes on cardboard (it sticks to
newspaper) in a well-ventilated area, spray the top and sides with Krylon
UV-Resistant Clear Acrylic Coating, and allow to dry for 15 minutes.
To remove the stray paint on the back of the dominoes, use a cotton ball
dipped in rubbing alcohol. Carefully clean the outer back edges of the
domino using a cotton swab dipped in the alcohol.
~~That's it! Enjoy!~~
