United We Stand

Here is a small glimpse at the H07 bodies I've owned and restored. First one was a 1975 Buick Skyhawk. This is the one that hooked me into the bizarre world of these lesser known hot rods.

This car was originally pumpkin orange and one step away from the "yard". The first few months of ownership I had to climb in and out through the window openings. The door bushings were non existing so the doors would not open, really sucked on rainy days. The engine (a 231) was also in sad shape. You step on the gas, wait about a minute then for the spouters before it would move under what sounding like a very heavy strain. After several trips to the "yard" and rummaging through my bank account I was able to piece this one back together. All said and done I ended up with a car that got me in all kinds of trouble and several speeding tickets. I stayed with the original block but added a 4 barrel intake and carbs from a Grand National, figured same engine so what the heck, why not.

This is the same car as above. I changed the color about every 6 months, had to, the cops would get to familiar with it. The last ticket I received was for doing 130 mph in a 55 mph zone. Living in Key West, Fl. at the time you just can't out run and hide from the cops. One road in and out.

I picked this one up in Oklahoma, another basket case. This was a 1978 Chevy Monza "sport". It came with a 151 ( a 4 cyl). I decided to yank it and rebuild it. After finding and replacing all the parts for the engine I vowed never to do that again. I had no idea how hard it would be to find parts for a 151. If you come across one, save your self the head aches and put a 305, 350, or even a 454 in it. Yes a 454 will fit. I no longer have this one. I moved to Alaska for a few years and sold this one to another "enthusiast" in Tennessee.

I am planning to acquire another car when I find one close to original. Anyone out there looking to sell or give away their projects please let me know. I am picky now though, I'm only interested in Skyhawks and Monzas but if I see a Starfire or Sunbird that catches my eye I may just buy it (prefer the sport rear tail light models), and no roll overs (meaning I don't want to cut and paste body parts).
