1.3. Properties of numbers

All numbers have the following properties:

Reflexive Property

For any number x, x = x.

Symmetric Property

For any numbers x and y, if x = y, then y = x. Complex numbers are equal when both real parts and both imaginary parts are equal.

Transitive Property

For any numbers x, y and z, if x = y and y = z, then x = z.

Substitution Property

For any numbers x and y, if x = y, then x may be replaced by y, and y may be replaced by x.
