Axioms (or laws) for algebraic operations apply to all of the numbers given in the preceding section. Numbers are equal when the real parts are equal and the complex parts are equal. Operations on complex numbers become operations on real numbers when the imaginary parts are zero.
There are two fundamental operations in algebra, addition and multiplication. Subtraction, division and other operations are derived from these two.
