Chapter 6

ALL HIS WAYS ARE  JUDGMENT

"He is the Rock, His work is perfect: for all His ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is He." [Deuteronomy 32:4].

Moffatt's translation reads, "Steadfast —He rules aright, HIS METHODS ARE IN ORDER DUE, a God trusty and wholly true, upright and honest." How wonderful! How precious! Greatly to be praised is our God! But then, we read on, in the next verse, "His sons─Sons? –have depraved themselves, to Him they prove untrue, a shifty crafty crew."
How unlike the Father, are the sons! The Father's ways are all RIGHT, His methods are in order due. And Ferrar Fenton gives, "ALL HIS LINES ARE STRAIGHT." Now we also are admonished to "Make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed." [Hebrews 12:13].
His lines are straight, but His sons have proven to be untrue, a shifty crafty crew. Therefore some tremendous remedial action is required. A deep processing, correctional chastenings, bringing into balance and uprightness.
"HE IS THE ROCK!" A rock bespeaks of strength, refuge, fortress. Yet these sons have not taken refuge in their Rock, for Deuteronomy 32:18 reads, "Of the Rock that begat thee thou art unmindful, and hast forgotten God that formed thee."
Yet we see that HE is bringing forth after His own kind, and because He is THE ROCK, then His processed ones, begotten of the Rock, shall be ''as lively stones, and built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ." [1 Peter 2:5].
"Jesus Christ Himself being the chief corner Stone." [Ephesians 2:20].
At no time will we ever take away from the preeminence of Christ our Lord, when we speak of our oneness and union with Him. Jesus never took one thing away from His Father, when He said, "I and Father are one." [John 10:30]. That did not diminish the Father. Rather, He was the visible expression of the Father to mankind. Everything He did was an expression of the Father's heart of love for man. He did not seek to draw attention to Himself, but to become the Way to the Father.
Likewise, in like manner, those who are begotten of the Rock, to be His "LIVELY STONES," these do not take away from the Rock, nor from the Chief Corner Stone, but they all serve to complement and give added expression of that Rock, that He might be glorified.
So then we read, "AND A MAN shall be as a hiding place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest; as rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a GREAT ROCK in a weary land." [Isaiah 32:2].
Certainly this was prophetic of the MAN Christ Jesus, and He has become all of this to humanity. However, taken in full context of the passage, we must go back to verse one, and read, "Behold, a King shall reign in righteousness..." That is our Lord Jesus Christ, He is the King of kings, and He is the Lord of lords. "And princes shall rule in judgment." That is the next order of position, these that share with Him in the headship, rulership realm, to execute His judgments. And then we come to this third part, "And a MAN..." So we have it, A King, then princes, and finally a man. Yet it is written that this NEW CREATION MAN shall be as the "shadow of a great rock in a weary land." For this man shall be joined to the King, become apart of the Rock, a vital, living union, to express all the blessings of the Rock.
First, "Whosoever shall fall upon that Stone shall be broken..." [Luke 20:18]. But having been thoroughly broken, we then become merged into one IN HIM, to become apart of the Rock─ to express the nature of, and  the ministry of the Rock.
"How should one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, except their rock had sold them, and the Lord had shut them up? For their rock is not as our Rock, even our enemies themselves being judges." [Deuteronomy 32:30-31]. When our Rock is manifested on the scene, and His absolute victory is manifested, even our enemies have to acknowledge that there is no god like unto our God. There is no rock like unto our Rock! Their rock will sell them out every time, when faced with the strength of our God. And our Rock, our Lord, will shut them up, confine them, take them all captive.
But we need to take care, lest things are reversed, for if we serve not the Lord our Rock, then He is able to sell us into the enemy's hand, to discipline us and chasten us sore. "And the anger of the Lord was hot against Israel, and He delivered them into the hands of spoilers that spoiled them, and He sold them into the hands of their enemies round about, so that they could not any longer stand before their enemies." [Judges 2:14].
Over and over again we read of this happening to Israel. God would sell them into the hand of the enemy, using the enemy as His chastening rod to bring His people into submission to His will and way. When they repented and turned from their wicked way, He would raise up judges which would "deliver them out of the hand of those that spoiled them." [Judges 2:16]. But if they turned away again from following the Lord, again He would sell them into the hand of their adversary. Times and times thus passed over Israel, because He would discipline and chasten every son whom He receiveth, and He shall have a people that are TOTALLY HIS, with one heart to do His will.
How can one spilled cup of coffee, or one slice of burnt toast, totally ruin your whole day, unless your Rock has sold you? And some of these days certainly go that way─ we are sold out to the pressures of the nitty-gritty and they rule over us, to chastise us, until in desperation we pour out our hearts unto the Lord, and cry for His will to be perfected in us. Yet surely it is His love involved in all these processings .
But if our Rock, "IF GOD BE FOR US, who can be against us? ─In all these things we are more than conquerors THROUGH HIM that loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death. nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature shall be able to separate  us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." [Romans 8:31, 37-39].
His work is perfect, all His lines are straight, His methods are in order due, all that He does is right! You cannot lose if God is on your side, you cannot win if He turns His hand against you, and sells you to your enemy. He is "A God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is He...[Deuteronomy 32:4]. There is no iniquity in Him, no perverseness, no evil. He is "The King eternal immortal (incorruptible), invisible, the only wise God, (and to Him) be honour and glory for ever and ever...." [1 Timothy 1:17].
Immortal─ the Greek word that is used here is "aphthartos" and means INCORRUPTIBLE, while the actual Greek word for immortality is "athanasia" which means deathlessness, a word that is used in the Greek text only three times, (1 Corinthians 15:53,54, and 1 Timothy 6:16), but in all other cases, where the Authorized Version uses immortal, it is actually the word INCORRUPTIBLE.
God, being INCORRUPTIBLE, makes it self-evident that nothing is greater than incorruptibility. Corruption signifies a change from a state of uprightness, truth, to a perverted state, or a defiled and polluted state. We realize that in our present realm, creation being made subject to vanity, and fallen into a bondage of corruption, there has been a changeover from pure spirit existence into a state of gross materialism, subject to decay. Now we need that changing back from this corruptible into that which is of pureness of spirit.
Thus we note that 1 Timothy 1:17 states that the "only wise God" is incorruptible. As the Most High, in His highest form of Godship, He is incorruptible. Yet it is not stated that He alone is incorruptible, for such a state can be attained unto as we become partakers of His divine nature, by His grace. Then it also becomes self-evident that once we have PUT ON INCORRUPTIBILITY we have also become immortal, for that which is incorruptible, never given over to decay, cannot know death, for death is the fruition of sin. "Sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death." [James 1:15]. When one is brought into a sinless state, death is annulled. Thus our desire is not just to be brought into a state of "no death," but into a state of NO CORRUPTION, for then we'll never have to face the consequence of sin. It is incorruption that results in immortality. There can be no death where there is no sin. God, make us incorruptible!
"Who hath saved us, and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began. But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality (INCORRUPTION) to light through the gospel." [2 Timothy 1:9-10].
Christ came bringing light upon incorruption. He is that "True Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world." [John 1:9]. For "He shall save His people from their sins." [Matthew 1:21]. Through Him we obtain that LIFE, that DIVINE NATURE, which is incorruptible. We are made free from the law of sin and death, and become a partaker of the law of "the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus." [Romans 8:2]. He will bring us into that state of holiness, to be pure as He is pure. And He has purposed all our times and seasons to work to this end─ our restoration into His perfection.
"Through faith we understand that the worlds (Greek, ages) were framed by the Word of God." [Hebrews 11:3]. This word, "framed," literally means─ to make thoroughly fit, to be adequate, adjusted, fully equipped. TIME IS A SERVANT TO THE PURPOSE OF GOD. God fit and adjusted the ages for the working out of His plan.
Furthermore, we read in 1 Corinthians 2:7, of the "Hidden wisdom which God ordained before the world (ages) began unto our glory." There is a wisdom that also antedates time, it is above time, and can see the ultimate end of total victory, and is not subject to the changeableness of  the seasons.
Also, Titus 1:2-3, speaks of the "hope of eternal life, which God that cannot lie promises before the world (ages) began but hath in due time manifested."
So we see that God has a PURPOSE, with GRACE for the outworking of that purpose, WISDOM to direct it, and LIFE which can endure all ages to see that purpose brought to its consummation. All this we find in our Lord Jesus Christ, and all of this is to be our portion also, THROUGH UNION WITH HIM. Then we also shall find our fulfillment  in God's purpose of the ages, "having all grace abounding towards us that we always having all sufficiency in all things may abound toward every good work." [2 Corinthians 9:8].
And, since in Him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily, and in Him are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge, and He is made unto us "wisdom and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption," [1 Corinthians 1:30] then we become partakers of that  WISDOM that is equal to the need for direction of the out-working of the purpose. And, because of HIS LIFE being imparted to us more abundantly, we also shall have life throughout all ages, to see that this purpose is brought to its conclusion. Until, "Behold, I make all things new." [Revelation 21:5].
Now, having established that "HE IS THE ROCK, HIS WORK IS PERFECT, ─ A GOD OF TRUTH AND WITHOUT INIQUITY, JUST AND RIGHT," therefore it rightfully follows, "ALL HIS WAYS ARE JUDGMENT."
Every act, every facet of the outworking of His plan, holds within it, JUDGMENT.
Judgment is defined as the pronouncement of a formal opinion or decision, the mental act of judging, the operation of the mind involving comparison and discrimination, by which knowledge of values and relations is mentally formulated. And judgment is the action required to bring all into that state of RIGHT.
Judgment is revealed in Genesis 1:3, when "God said, Let there be light: and there was light." For God had "created the heaven and the earth." "He created it not in vain (Hebrew "tohu," ruin, void), He formed it to be inhabited." [Isaiah 45:18]. But with the cataclysmic events that transpired, "the earth was (became) without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep." Therefore judgment was essential─ action was required to bring about a state of rightness again.
Judgment was revealed in the Garden of Eden, Genesis 3:15, when God said, "I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed, it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel." The serpent had beguiled the woman, her husband had joined her in the situation, they had disobeyed the commandment of God, and He pronounced JUDGMENT. "In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground." Yet in all of this there was HOPE, for in the judgment is A PROMISE OF DELIVERANCE. There was no word of comfort to Adam and Eve, but the ACT of cursing the serpent. Yet we see in this very act of cursing the serpent springs the hope of man's deliverance. It was their promise of deliverance, it became the security of their hope for away out of this tragic situation. Every judgment and curse involves a blessing.
He condemns to justify, He kills to make alive─ that is, to make the creature righteous as He is righteous. "I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal:..." [Deuteronomy 32:39]. "He hath torn, and He wilt heal us; He hath smitten, and He wilt bind us up." [Hosea 6:1]. The killing, the wounding, the smiting and bruising, which is a part of the act of judgment, is also a part of the deliverance into His life. It is to bring an end to the wrong, that the right might be established. So all of His ways are judgment! All are used for the bringing forth of His life and victory in us.
As soon as one beholds the beginnings of these judgments in them, they can rejoice in the knowledge that now they are in the process which shall bring them into victory. Until judgment begins, one continues in their state of corruption, vanity, void. But the moment His hand enters our life, it is to bring about a state of rightness.
Righteousness is not complete if it only judges and condemns. For the devil also can condemn. But the highest righteousness, while it judges sin, can never rest until it also makes the sinner righteous and whole again.
"I know, O Lord, that Thy judgments are right, and that Thou in faithfulness hast afflicted me." [Psalm 119:75]. Therefore, "I have hoped in Thy judgments." [Psalm 119:43].
"The Lord hath chastened me sore: but He hath not given me over unto death. Open to me the gates of righteousness: I wilt go into them, and I wilt praise the Lord." [Psalm 118:18-19].
"Justice and judgment are the habitation (Hebrew, the establishment) of Thy throne: mercy and truth shalt go before Thy face. Blessed are the people that know the joyful sound..."
Know the joyful sound of what? Of the singing in the camp-meeting? No. The joyful sound of the outworking of His judgments which establish us in His throne.
".... they shalt walk, O Lord, in the light of Thy countenance. In Thy name shalt they rejoice all the day: and in Thy righteousness shall they be exalted." [Psalm 89:14-16].
He who said, "I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly," [John 10:10], also said, "FOR JUDGMENT  I AM COME into this world, that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind." [John 9:39].
"When He is come, He will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment. Of sin, because they believe not on Me; Of righteousness, because I go to My Father, and ye see Me no more; Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged." [John 16:8-11].
Reprove the world of sin─ that is easily understood. All unbelief is sin, and man has not believed on Him who is the Way, Truth, and Life. So man continues to "miss the mark," going his own way, and ending in death. "To be carnally minded is death."
OF RIGHTEOUSNESS─ "because I go to the Father, and ye see Me no more." What does His going to the Father have to do with a revelation of righteousness? Were He not righteous, the Father would not have received Him, therefore HE IS THE LIVING PROOF OF THE RIGHTEOUSNESS THAT WE ARE TO BECOME IN HIM, as we are conformed to His image. And then the Father will receive us also! "Declared to be the Son of God with power, ACCORDING TO THE SPIRIT OF HOLINESS, by the resurrection from the dead." [Romans 1:4]. And methinks that the real message of holiness has not even yet been preached. The few pious standards which men have formulated, which justified themselves, and condemned all that did not observe them, might be called "holiness teachings" but they miss it completely. Praise God, when HE is come, HE will reprove, convict, of true righteousness. And He is bringing forth a people who are "all righteous…the work of My hands, that I may be glorified." [Isaiah 60:21].
"Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord? or who shall stand in His holy place? He that hath clean hands, and  a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully. He shall receive the blessing from the Lord, and righteousness from the God of his salvation." [Psalm 24:3-5].
OF JUDGMENT─ "because the prince of this world is judged." HE STRUCK THE ROOT, and judged the prince of this world. This was more than just "lop off a few branches," removing an evil spirit or two. Not only did He judge the prince of this world, but this, in turn, is a judgment passed upon all who have the spirit of the world in them.
Jesus was able to say, "the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in Me." [John 14:30]. There were no inner traitors, no toe-hold for the adversary, nothing within that the prince of this world could lay claim to.
"Bless the Lord, O my soul; and ALL THAT IS WITHIN ME, bless His holy name." [Psalm 103:1]. When all that is within us is HOLY, pure as He is pure, then we too, are free from any of the adversary's claims upon us.
"In time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience." [Ephesians 2:2]. And it takes MUCH JUDGMENT to purge out all of the spirit of the world, that we might be totally filled with, yes, become ONE IN HIS SPIRIT.
"All His ways are judgment." Finally, we note this Hebrew word for "ways," which is "derek" and meaning: trodden way or path, but its meaning has come from "putting the foot down," (which repeatedly put down in the same place causes a path or trodden way). But this "putting the foot down" was also "to string a bow, SET THE BEND." Putting the foot down on the bow holds it in place to be bent until the string can be secured in place. WHEREVER HE SETS HIS FOOT, IT IS TO BEND US INTO HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS. Thank God, He has put a bend in our path, whereas we were turned away from Him, into self-ways of rebellion and iniquity, now He sets His foot down, bends us to His will and way, and we shall walk in the straight paths of His righteousness.
"Behold, He cometh leaping upon the mountains, skipping upon the hills." [Song of Solomon 2:8]. He knows exactly where to put His foot down, and the amount of pressure that is needed on the mountains, the kingdoms of man, to bring them low; and upon the hills, all the self-expressions of men, to subdue the same. Upon mountains He leaps, forcefully; upon the little hills, He skips more tenderly, for He measures out His judgments according to the need, just enough to accomplish the task, no more, no less, and yet with love and care, for "A bruised reed shall He not break, and smoking flax shall He not quench, till He send forth judgment unto victory." [Matthew 12:20].
"Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low;  and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth; AND ALL FLESH SHALL SEE THE SALVATION OF GOD." [Luke 3:5-6].

"As for God, His way is perfect."
And this word we know is true,
With His mercy undergirding
While He maketh all things new.

Righteousness is the foundation
Of His throne, and shall be seen
Manifest in all His working,
Here to there, and all between.

Also, all His ways are judgment,
In this promise we rejoice,
For it means the whole creation
Yet shall make His will their choice.

When He gives the sure commandment,
Revelation of His plan,
Then the process of correction,
Till He perfects every man.

Marvellous this hope and vision,
All His actions show His love,
And the more our eyes are opened,
We worship Him who dwells above.
