list:
1.
"GREETING" We desire to reach those
who are searching and who love the truth for the truth's sake;---those
who love and prize the truth, above the creed, above the denomination,
above their reputation, above all their worldly prospects;
those who are willing to part with all they have for the priceless
pearl.
2.
"THE
TITLE OF THE PAPER" By The Spirit of the Word, I mean its real
and intended meaning.
3.
"BIBLE TERMS: NATURAL, SPIRITUAL, CARNAL"
Natural man is man in the rough---who has received no spiritual development:
Spiritual man is the illuminated natural man, unto the completion
which is in His (Christ’s) likeness: Carnal man is the under development
of spiritual man, i.e. “babes in Christ.”
4.
"ALL
THINGS ARE OF GOD" There is no statement in the Bible that is
more remarkable and even startling than this. When you think of it
seriously, it seems as though Paul was very unguarded and careless in
his language. But no, Paul makes the sweeping, unqualified statement,
"All things are of (literally, out of) God." Furthermore, so
important did Paul consider this truth that he repeats it over and over again. The
direct statement is made no less than six times in the writings
of the apostle. See Rom. XI. 36; 1 Cor. VIII. 6, and XI. 12;
2 Cor. V. 18; Eph. I. 11, and Heb. II. 10.
5.
"FREE
MORAL AGENCY" Let me also call attention to the fact that the
phrase, "free moral agency," is not a Scriptural one, any more than the
phrase "immortal soul" is Scriptural. Free moral agency is simply a
theological expression, man-manufactured for his own convenience, and
it may be that it does not express the truth. Let us by all means fit our
theology to the Bible; and not try, as many do, to conform the Bible to
our theology.
6.
"THE
TWO ACCOUNTS OF THE CREATION" It is well known to all Bible Students that in the first two chapters of Genesis we have two distinct, and
in some respects apparently contradictory accounts of the
Creation. Where there seems to be a contradiction or discrepancy in the
Bible, when we come to understand the solution of the difficulty we shall
find some especially grand and glorious truth hid away in the heart of
the perplexing "letter," like a pearl in an oyster, and what
at first seemed to be an irreconcilable tangle, is found at
last to be only another illustration of the absolute harmony
and perfection of God's wonderful "Word of life."
7.
"WE ARE GOD’S WORKMANSHIP" Most
Christians live as though the responsibility of their own development
and perfection rested entirely upon themselves. God thru His Christ ,while on
the Cross, was manifesting the reconciliation of all mankind for in this act of
redemption, or reconciliation , God took responsibility for His Creation. He did
not leave anything or anyone out of His divine Purpose.
8.
"WHAT IS MAN" When man was first created he was
just what the scripture says he was, “a living creature,” and from that
mere animal, natural condition, he will be developed into a “perfect man”
in the likeness of God, incorruptible and immortal. He, in
the likeness of Christ, is the pattern man of God’s finished creation.
9.
"FAITH AND WORKS" Is there something man can do?
Yes, but what is the nature and the purpose of this doing? Christians
do the wrong thing and with the wrong motive, hence their doing
is a snare and a stumbling stone.
10. DEFINITIONS:
10.1
"WORLD, AEON"
10.2
"KOSMOS"
10.3
"HEAVEN , EARTH"
10.4
"ETERNAL"
10.5
"ORTHODOXY"
11.1
"WE SEE JESUS" The sacrifice
He made was not after His incarnation, but before. He left
the “glory” that He had with the Father before the world was
formed. We see Christ Jesus prophetically and we see Jesus Christ historically.
11.2
"THE MAN CHRIST JESUS" Christ
the Son is absolutely God the Father,--in the language of the creeds,--”the
very unoriginated God,” is not only absurd, self-contradictory
and unscriptural, but confusing, misleading and discouraging
to the soul seeking after God.
12.
"PROBATION" The word “Probation” does not occur in the
Bible, nor does the idea that is commonly attached to it; their
highest idea of salvation is salvation from the consequences of sin--an
endless hell.
13.
"THE DIVINITY OF CHRIST" Define
the word, Divinity. This word is misused by theologians.
Divinity is Godlikeness, and this was Christ’s birthright; He never stated
that He was God. Indeed Jesus Christ answered “My Father is greater than
I” in John 14:28.
14. QUESTIONS:
"CHURCH and COMPELLING MESSAGE"
"SECOND DEATH"
"SABBATH"
"PROBATION AND THE DOCTRINE of ETERNAL HELL"
15.
"JUDGMENT"
“Before the Lord, for he cometh to judge the world (or the order of things).
He shall judge the world with righteousness and the people with His Truth.”
This presentation of the nature of the time of judgement as a period
of great rejoicing and special blessing, is in striking contrast with the
orthodox view, unmitigated horror and dread.
16.
"SODOM" In the case of Sodom, the purpose
is one of benevolence, mercy and love, and this purpose will
plainly appear in God’s “due time.”
17.
"THE MYSTIC CHRISTMAS" A poem so beautifully
illustrates the differences between the letter and the spirit.
18.
"TRUSTING" We may have faith in a person and yet not be
willing to trust him very much; especially with our worldly goods or reputation.
19.
"BIBLE CORRECTIONS" Psa. VII.11; Psa IX. 17; Psa. 109th; Isa.
XXVI. 10, 11; John III. 16.
20.
"SWORD AND GARMENT" This passage plainly indicates that
there is a mystical or spiritual meaning. A message that is
very symbolic; however, prophecy was being fulfilled.
21.
"THE PURPOSE OF EVIL" There is
probably no subject in all the range of religious thought so hard
to deal with as that of the purpose of evil. How can
you account for the existence of evil alongside of a supreme, all wise,
holy and benevolent God? In regard to this subject, orthodoxy is
hopelessly contradictory, and utterly absurd. But God
purposed “all things.”
22.
"THE PURPOSE OF THE LAW" The first
purpose of the law then is to give knowledge of sin; or in
other words to bring us to a true knowledge of ourselves.
23.
"THE PURPOSE OF TRIAL" I apprehend that the reason why
so few understand this experience is because they read the
scripture so carelessly, and understand so little about God’s
way of life ”made perfect through suffering.”
24.
"THE ATONEMENT" The common idea of
the so-called vicarious atonement is offensive in the extreme and it
makes a declaration that man can not be freely pardoned, and the penalty fully remitted: he,
or some one else must suffer the penalty before God, in order for God's
"justice" is satisfied.
25.
"THEOLOGICAL REVERSALS" The Bible
is written, as the Word incarnate spoke, in “parables and dark sayings,”
allegories, shadows and figures, that the truth might not be seen,
except by those to “whom it was given.”
26.
"TERMINOLOGY OF THE ATONEMENT" It
is very necessary in order to understand the doctrine of the atonement
to have a clear apprehension of the various terms:
Atonement: Reconciliation (reconciliation of all mankind): Propitiation: Intercession: Mediator
and Advocate: Redemption: Ransom: Purchased and Bought.
27.
"CORRESPONDENCE" Objections from a
Christian brother.
28.
"WHY DID CHRIST DIE?"
To reconcile ( manifest the reconciliation of all mankind) the world unto God, to fulfill the law; making known God to
man; bring forth the “much fruit”, the “whole of Creation,” destroying
the works of the devil; to become the Lord of the dead and the living;
to ratify the New Covenant; to present to God His inheritance in the Saints
and establish God as “All in All.”
29.
"THE
ATONEMENT AS TYPIFIED IN THE LAW" "I have sinned; there
is a just and holy God who punishes sin; how shall I escape this punishment?"
This is about as high as most men get in their moralizing, and their theory
of the Atonement is built upon this basis. It is seen that the doctrine
of substitution is false; let it go with that other lie of endless torments,
seeing that it is equally dishonoring to God. Redemption was not an afterthought
with God to counteract the effects of an unforeseen contingency. What we
call "the fall of man," with its consequences of sin and death, was a part
of God's original plan of creation, and hence of course atonement [redemption]
[reconciliation of all mankind] was a part of that plan.
