The Stewartsville Presbyterian Church is part of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and is located in Greenwich Township, Warren County, New Jersey. It is part of the Newton Presbytery and The Synod of the Northeast.
On May 29, 1850 the Stewartsville Presbyterian Church was organized, having seventy-six members enrolled. Prior to this date, worshippers attended the Old Greenwich Presbyterian Church, making this trip by horse and carriage, farm wagon or on foot.
The Old Greenwich Presbyterian Church, being the mother church, opposed the organizing of the Stewartsville Church as it took away fifty-four of its member. However, the new church, capable of seating 500 people, was dedicated on December 10, 1850. This dedication was written up in the Warren Journal.
In the first week of October 1950 the Church celebrated it's 100th Anniversary. The contents
of the 100th Anniversary Yearbook are contained here.
On November 2, 1975 the Church celebrated it's 125th Anniversary. The contents
of the 125th Anniversary Yearbook are contained here.
During the 150 years, twelve pastors have served this church:
The above photo is an image of the chuch from about 1875 [or earlier] to the
turn of the century. Note the stained glass windows were not in yet and the
downstairs fellowship hall probably was not yet finished off for Sunday School.
Also notice the small white building in the back of the church, it is now
attached to the church as the nursery area.
The one story brick administration and school building addition on the west side was built in 1970.
The Parsonage was a gift of Elder John C. Boyer before 1925.
We now celebrating our 150th anniversary.
