This page provides links to those resources I used or stumbled upon while putting together  Sociology in the Classroom.  One of the aspects that  makes the internet so special is the availability of free resources for novice web designers.  Such resources were invaluable in the process of creating this site.

  • HTML Writers Guild  (If you are serious about improving your web design skills, this is the organization to join.  The first year membership is free, and teachers and students receive a 50% membership discount.  You'll find lots of resources and useful mailing lists.  Join the critique list and have other web designers critique your page--lurking on this list has been invaluable to me.)
  • Web Site Garage  (check out your web page performance in seven different areas)

Free graphic sources

Other free stuff

  • The Banner Generator   (make a title banner for your web page)
  • 3D Text Maker
  • Button Maker  (turn any GIF image into a nicely beveled button)
  • GIFWorks  (free online image editor--resize it, colorize it, optimize it, and jazzercise it)
  • HTMLWorks  (analyze your site for load times, bad links, html syntax, search engine rank, & popularity)
  • This site is hosted by AT&T WorldNet Service with no additional fee over their normal internet service provider charge. They allow up to 60 megabytes of space with no annoying banners or pop ups.  The counters and my mail form are provided by their Personal Web Page service.
