      The Celebration of
         Commitment:

In a society that does not recognize same-sex unions, an illustrated  certificate is a beautiful and proud way to document the Gay or Lesbian Celebration of  Commitment.  When the couple's extended family and community gather in witness to  their union and sign the certificate, it is a very visible and powerful statement of  support for the couple.

Hundreds of years ago, in much the same way,  the Quaker  certificate was a legal document for the young couple in a state which often would not  recognize a marriage from a religion which lacked an officiating minister.

Coming soon:  "Gay-Friendly" Interpretation of Scripture.

Also coming  soon:   Quaker and other religious statements  affirming tolerance and support of Gay and Lesbian Same-Sex Unions.

Actual size of certificates is much larger,  usually  24 inches by 36 inches.  Certificates are done by hand on parchment  paper with colored inks.  Only fragments of the whole certificate appear below.

Not  a certificate, but just an illustrated poem by Walt Whitman, given as a gift to  commemorate the union of two men, Frank & Justin.

Jesse  and Lisa are two Quaker women in Ithaca, New York, who placed a pentagram in the 4 corners  of an ivy-woven closed circle, which encircled their Celebration vows. The circle is  dotted with tiny purple flowers

Cathy  and Kimber asked for the "Omega" design, and placed a Raven and a Crow among the  flowers they chose to represent their union
