A Thumbnail of an Entire Certificate

Here is a sample thumbnail showing a full certificate with signatures. To see more, visit the Gallery-at-a-Glance Directory. Each certificate has its own page, where you’ll find a larger image, detail close-ups and the story of the creative collaboration between the artist and the couples who commissioned the artwork. (Sorry, this certificate does not have its own page yet.)

Quakers  or Friends (Religious Society of Friends) believe  that no man or woman can join two people, but only God can. Friends have traditionally  exchanged vows with each other in the presence of Friends and Family. Since there was no priest or minister to witness the wedding, U.S. law historically did not recognize the  marriages, so Quakers created a certificate with their written vows. It is then signed by the couple and all in attendance. The certificate is framed and hung in a prominent place  in the home. In the past, Quakers had no art or mirrors in the home, so often the plain, calligraphed certificate was the home's only decoration. Today, certificates may be  illustrated.

What you will find at this site:
A directory of all certificates is at Gallery-at-a-Glance.   I  have a page devoted to Quaker Marriage PracticesCeremony Ideas & Advice includes some practical and creative ideas for planning your wedding.  If you are interested in same-sex unions, you might wish to visit the Gay and Lesbian Celebrations of Commitment..  Marriage means love: physical and erotic, so visit Sensual Images of Love.  Finally, there is the Estimate Your Certificate Design page, with an on-line form to get a cost estimate on the certificate of your dreams.

You don’t have to be a  Quaker...
I will create certificates for any denomination’s marriage, justice of the peace service, gay and lesbian celebrations of  commitments and documents for other joining  ceremonies, including Jewish Ketubahs and anniversaries.
