Following are extracts of the Declaration of Intent and the Petition for Naturalization for my Grandfather, Andrew Smorey.  I have used exact spellings as they appear on these documents.  Click on the titles below to view copies of the documents.

Declaration of Intent

No. 41888.  United States of America..  U.S. Department of Labor, Naturalization Service.  State of Pennsylvania In the District Court of the United States Western District of Pennsylvania.

"I, Andreas Czmorey, aged 25 years, Occupation laborer, do declare on oath that my personal description is: Color: white, Complexion: fair, Height: 5 feet 3 inches, Weight: 134 pounds, Color of Hair: blonde, Color of Eyes: blue, Other Visible Distinctive Marks: none. 

I was born in Almas Austria Hungary on the 18 day of October, anno Domini 1891; I now reside at 1113 Cherry Way, Braddock, Pennsylvania.  I emigrated to the United States of America from Fiume on the vessel Ultonia.  My last foreign residence was Lucka ,Austria Hungary; I am married: the name of my wife is Annie; she was born at Austria Hungary and now resides with me.  It is my bona fide intention to renounce forever all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty and particularly to Charles, Emperor of Austria, of whom I am now a subject.  I arrived at the Port of New York, in the State of New York, on or about the 6 day of December, anno Domini 1904; I am not an anarchist; I am not a polygamist nor a believer in the practice of polygamy; and it is my intention in good faith to become a citizen of the United States of America and to permanently reside therein, So Help Me God.  Signed //Andreas Czmorey//."

Petition For Naturalization

No. 30855.  "The Petition of Andrew Smorey, hereby filed, respectfully showeth: First: My place of residence is 1113 1/2 Cherry Way, Braddock, Pennsylvania.  Second: My occupation is Laborer.  Third:  I was born on the 18th day of October anno Domini 1891: Almeras Czecho Slovakia.  Fourth: I emigrated to the United States from Fiume, on or about the 20th day of November, anno Domini 1904; arrived in the United States at the Port of New York on the 6th day of December, anno Domini 1904, the vessel Ultonia.  Fifth:  I declared my intention to become a citizen of the United States on the 16th day of April, anno Domini 1917 at Pittsburgh, Pa to the District Court of the United States.  Sixth:  I am married.  My wife's name is Anna; she was born on the 2nd day of August, anno Domini 1894 at Austria Hungary and now resides with me.  I have 4 children and the name date and place of birth and place of residence of each of said children is  as follows:

Albert  July 2, 1915         Braddock, Pa.  Braddock, Pa.

Eigth:  I am able to speak the English Language.  Ninth:  I have resided continuously in the United States of America for the term of five years at least, immediately preceding the date of this petition, to wit, since the 6th December 1904, and in the State of Pennsylvania, continuously next preceding the date of this petition, since the 20th December anno Domini 1904.

Declaration of Intention Number 41888 filed this 26th day of February 1920.

Witnesses:  Michael J. Verosky, County Detective, residing at Braddock and Andrew Silvosy, Laborer residing at Braddock.
