There are two fly casting instructor certification programs in North America. The American Casting Association has been certifying instructors for several decades. The Federation of Fly Fishers began a certification program in 1994.

AMERICAN CASTING ASSOCIATION PROGRAM

There are two levels of casting instructor certification in the American Casting Association,

Certified Instructor and Key Certified Instructor. A Certified Instructor obtains that status by recording a minimum score of 85 points in one or more ACA recognized fly accuracy events or revolving spool plug accuracy and/or 80 pints in spinning plug accuracy events.

A Key Certified Instructor must have a minimum of five years of district level or higher tournament experience and meet the above score standards in all basic types of accuracy events conducted by the ACA.

Certified instructors must be members of either an ACA recognized club or annual members of the ACA. The fee for becoming a certified instructor is a single payment of ten dollars. An annual membership in the ACA is ten dollars per year. A club membership is thirty dollars per year.

Certified instructors are expected to assist in casting clinics, workshops etc. at various locations.

The ACA 's executive secretary is Dale Lanser, 1773 Lance End Lane, Fenton MO 63026, 314 225 9443.
