MS-07 B3 GOUF CUSTOM

BANDAI 1/100 MG MS-07 B3 GOUF CUSTOM

>08TH MS TEAM OVA<

DESCRIPTION

In progress shots of the MS-07 B3 Gouf Custom. It took me a while to appreciate the Gouf design. Having an affection for the Grunt MS, the navy blue Rhamba Rhal Gouf never appealed to me. The machine gun hands were such a design flaw. The Gouf is designed as the field replacement for the underwhelming Zaku in the face of the Gundam units.

CHANGES

Gatling Gun was removed from shield.Gun was modified to hand held weapon.

Cargo pack was added to back of jump jet cover. Misc. cargo equipment was made to give it that lived in look.

Fore-arm cable launcher was removed. Not all Gouf pilots are Norris, so the electro-whip would be useless in less experienced pilots.

Replaced kit hands with B-Club resin hands.

FINISH

The model was finished with Testor's Acryl Paints. It was pre-shaded with black and the final colors were applied over it. A gloss coat of Future was applied to seal the paint. After I decided I was not going to apply decals, I applied Testor's Acryl Matt which is a dead flat finish. A thicker wash of thinned artist's oils and mineral spirits was slopped over the entire model. After the wash has dried slightly, I went back over all the parts with an old t-shirt with a little mineral spirits and wiped all the wash off in a logical direction so it would end up looking like streaks. After this was dry, selective washes were applied again to call attention to certain details like bolt heads. The model was then drybrushed with acrylic paints to bring out all the detail. Next, I mixed up a dark brown for rust spots and applied them on corners that would logically see abrasion. Ground pastels were used for the final weathering step. The ammo drum received the same treatment. The gatling gun was first painted black, then I used the same tech of pre-shade and used a gun metal to highlight the barrels and other details on the gun. I then used a combo of powdered graphite, from a pencil, and SNJ's powdered alum. buffing powder and used a soft cloth to rub in, first the graphite, deep into the paint. It is amazing the finish just the graphite can achieve over black paint to replicate gun metal steel. The SNJ was used to pick out more detailed areas as it has a much brighter chrome like effect when buffed. The same finished was applied to the sword.

I chose the paint scheme as a cross between the overall blue of the Goufs and an all grey mass production type Zaku. It implies that the suit is a little more special than a standard grunt unit like the Zaku, but the pilot is not special enough to be provided with a garish custom paint scheme and a better suit.
Various fun little details are added to the rear engine deck. The cargo box was scratch built from simple styrene sheet. The wooden box is styrene sheet with tissue paper used as a tarp. The tow cable is simple wire wire with lead foil used as the buckles. The Jerry cans are from a 1/72 armor kit and while they look ok on the model, they are way out of scale, and would come up to the pilot's chest in real life. Brass wire was used for the cable hanger and tow loop. The cracker grenade is from the Zaku kit. I thought it would be funny to add a fuel tank to the back even though MS use a nuclear reactor for the power supply. The tank is made from the Sazabi fuel pods and lead foil for the mounting straps. Well it looks good anyway.
Good view of use of a Dremel Motor Tool to achieve battle damage. A small grinder was used to nick and ding the Gouf for that much loved look.
