In1940 the following specifications were noted by Gus Simpson for the early

ski tow using a 1929 Model 58 Buick (car engine) motor.

Speed of motor 2800 RPM (sae) 31.54 HP

High gear = direct

2nd Gear = 1.858 to 1 ratio to drive shaft

In high drive shaft turns 2800 RPM

In second drive shaft turns 1507 RPM

At 3 to 1 counter shaft turns 502 RPM

At 3 to 1 30” sheave turns 167 RPM or 14.9 MPH

Actual ratio of Buick drive reduction:

Silent Linkbelt chain 19 T to 60 T (teeth)           = 3.16 ratio

Roller Linkbelt  chain 16 T to 45 T                    = 2.81

Total drive reduction ration                               = 8.779 to 1

At about 15 miles per hour the ride to the top was fast.

Later tows ran slightly slower running between 9 and 12 mph.
