Orchid or Lavender

Back ] Next ]

It is worth the wait for the collectors pictures below!

Some gold decorated teapots with the orchid numbers are have a mat finish.  The color looks to be a mat pink.  Other may look to be a glossy Purple/Lavender color.  Lavender is also a Hall color.

I would like to gather a database of the exact Hall numbering and lettering on the bottom of light purplish Hall teapots.

Some collectors have told me they think the only "true" orchid is a mat pink color and that other items are actually lavender.  Other collectors have told me that both are Orchid and that Orchid varies a lot.  If you have any Hall documentation on this I would sure like to know.

If you have items in this color would you email me the exact numbers, letters and punctuation on the bottom of the teapot.  Also please tell me if the item is a mat pink or a glossier Purple/Lavender like color. Pictures would also be helpful
email them to Shirley

Maybe we can determine something about this elusive color.

Here is a New mark batter bowl in LAVENDER

Another New mark Lavender pictcher.  Notice the color variation in the lid.  This color was hard for Hall to do and there is some variation!

Here are some collectors items

Observations so far:
Naomi ordered items in the mid 80's in Lavender
Orchid is in the Hall catalogs on their color charts for at least 1935, 1937,1940, 1942
Orchid is NOT in the Hall catalogs on their color charts for 1930, 1956, 1964, 1984, 1987, 2000
There does not seem to be any consistency in decimal point marking a difference between the glossy and the mat colors.  There may be two decimals in the glossy items but I need more data on this.

Proposed names to use:
Perhaps these name/descriptions would help for items that are light purple until more actual Hall documentation shows up.

"Glossy Orchid"
"Mat Orchid"

Any light purple item with a Hall new mark - Lavender
