Conformation

Who's cutest?  Pick me, pick me!

Although sometimes thought of as the "beauty contest" of the dog world, showing dogs in conformation is both fun and beneficial.  Dog shows are an excellent way to socialize dogs in a high-activity environment with lots of people and other dogs.

All dogs being considered for breeding should be judged by multiple experts in the breed to verify they are structurally sound and conform to the standards for the breed.  Reputable hobby breeders plan their breedings with the goal of always bettering the breed - we strive to produce offspring superior to the parents.

The two main registries offering American Eskimo conformation shows are the AKC (American Kennel Club) and UKC (United Kennel Club).  Both registries provide expert judges but the show environment is very different for AKC and UKC events.  The requirements for championship titles also differ.  One exhibitor described AKC shows as a "reception at the country club" while UKC events were more like a "big  family picnic".  For more information on each, see the Clubs' web sites at www.akc.org or www.ukcdogs.com
