Notes:
1 Actual birth year is believed to be 1877 as indicated on the Social Security Death Records Index and
the 1900 Morgan Co Al Census.
(2 Ward, New Decatur, Enumerated on 11 June 1900,
Sup. Dist No. 8, Enumeration District No. 142,
Sheet 14, Line 82). Willis was the youngest of seven children and in 1900 is the only one left living in the home of his widowed mother, Elizabeth.
2 Date of death confirmed by obituary published in the "Portales News Tribune"
on 16 April 1969.
3 Address given for the Slaten Coal &
Seed Co. in a letter received by Noel H. Slaten or his wife Addie M.
Craft Slaten, in 1956 is given as 105 East Commercial St., Portales,
New Mexico. I have not examined the original of this letter but have
information pertaining to its contents from notes written about the letter
by Mrs. Pauline Slaten Dodson (dau. of Addie Craft and Noel H. Slaten).

??? Death Date from his tombstone
(Walnut Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Morgan Co, AL) is 2 Jun 1892,
so Blanche was close on her "guestimate" here.
??? Wife of William "Bill" G. Slaten is
Elizabeth "Lizzie" [maiden name either Evans or Stan[d?,s?]field].
Researchers give conflicting marriage dates and places. (M. Gibson
gives maiden name of Evans with marriage date of 28 Mar 1865 in Morgan
Co AL and C. Slayton gives maiden name of Stansfield with marriage
date of Dec 13, 1865 in Williamson Co TN). I've yet to see an original
marriage record for either assertion. The couple are located in
Williamson Co TN in the 1870 and the 1880 Census records and curiously,
in the 1880 Census Record there is a John Standfield living just
one door up from them. The age of John Standfield is given in this
census as being 36 (est. birth year=1844), so he could possibly be a brother to Elizabeth
"Lizzie" Slaten IF her maiden name is actually Standfield and not
Evans as M. Gibson suggests.
??? Willis didn't have 6 older sisters; he had 4 older sisters and 1 younger
sister. Evidence for this is found in the 1880 Williamson Co TN Census records where the youngest child
in the family is listed as Lizzie Slaten with a birth year of 1879.
