ShadowDog's

Second Annual (41 Hour) Dead Zone Marathon!

Check out Shadowdog's Films:

Hours 25-29

Ground Rules

1) Start marathon at 6am EST on June 11th. Finish marathon (All episodes from Seasons 1, 2, and 3) by 10pm EST on June 12th, just in time for the premiere episode of Season 4! Finish by watching that episode.

2) Watch at least one episode per hour, meaning I can take no longer a break than 15 minutes per hour.

3) Post at least one episode commentary at the top of each hour. Also post regularly at Official Dead Zone board to prove I am still awake.

4) Diet Pepsi amounts are marathon totals, not per hour.

5) Because I've already marathoned Seasons 1 and 2, those seasons will be viewed this time with audio commentaries on.

Episode Commentary Key:

Visions:
Prolonged marathons tend to cause hallucinations - er - visions.

Grouch of the EP award: There are some GROUCHY people in this series! Who was the surliest person in this ep?

General Remarks: What I thought of the ep, in general.

Commentators: Who commented on this episode? (where applicable)

Commentary Highlights: Again, where applicable.

Funny line of the ep/commentary: TEE HEE!
Trivia Question: Every now and then I'll ask a trivia question. Be the first to answer!

2.13 "The Storm"

Ounces of Diet Pepsi: 106
Visions: I'm too tired to see ANYthing.

Grouch of the EP award: Sarah's a real sourpuss in this one.

General Remarks: Not much for the storm following Johnny around episodes, but the Dana/Sarah wars were very entertaining. As was everything between Bruce and Johnny, and even Robert Picardo's family.
I'm going to have to double up on the Pepsi and eat something because I'm fading fast and I have a LONG way still to go!

Commentators: Michael Robinson, Jaison Stritch, and Robert Petrovicz

Commentary Highlights: This was one of the blandest commentaries of the series. Ha ha, Robert Picardo is soooo funnny! Those fish were all CGI!! The storm was CGI! WOO HOO!! Maybe I'm just in a really bad mood right now, and I am, but these guys brought nothing to the table.

Funny line of the ep/commentary: "I see you found something that almost fits." - Sarah, about Dana's very revealing swimsuit.
"You could use some color on your face yourself, Sarah, now that you're finally out of the kitchen." - Dana's retort

2.14 "Plague"

Ounces of Diet Pepsi: 112
Visions: I'm in too bad a mood for any visions.

Grouch of the EP award: Pratt, the snippy Minister of Health or whatever his title was. How many more thousands of lives does Johnny have to save before snippy bitches like Pratt start believing him??? "Let's get one thing straight, Mr. Smith, I don't want to be here. I'm responding to political pressure." Waaaah!!!

General Remarks: I loathe disease movies/TV episodes. They are just not my cup of tea. But this episode was the rare exception for me. The visions of sick kids were really scary and the Johnny sick visions (including him dead) were even more so. I liked the puzzle solving that went into finding the cure.

Commentators: Stephen Yobolowsky and Jill Blotevogel

Commentary Highlights: Stephen is one of my favorite actors and Jill is one of my favorite writers so I was much happier with these commentators. Jill has such a pleasant voice and is such a thoughtful writer and amusing anecdote telling that I've come to look forward to her commentaries. Especially when she provides gems like the angry parents named "Grantfork" because that reminded her of mobs with pitchforks wanting to burn Johnny the witch. LOL!! I could have done without Stephen's Walt farting anecdote though.
"There were a lot of creepy Canadian children there." - Stephen

"And here's the harshest cut." - Jill, as the doctor asks to speak to Li'l Johnny's parents alone.
"Parents only, please." - Doctor, stopping Johnny from joining Walt and Sarah with an outstretched hand.
"Ouch!" - Jill

Funny line of the ep/commentary: "Bored." - Li'l Johnny, answering the question of how he felt.

2.15 "Deja Voodoo"

Ounces of Diet Pepsi: 112
Visions: I'm giving in to the visions! I shall leave my TV now and dance with the bunnies!

Grouch of the EP award: Bruce. I've been ditched by friends who want to mack on chicks, so I feel you!

General Remarks: I LOVE repeating day stories! So this ep is one of my favorites. I love how, as mentioned in the commentary, most of the episode happens within a space of 20 seconds. This is deep stuff. Too deep for my tired brain.

Commentators: Anthony Michael Hall, Reiko Aylesworth, and Karl Schaefer

Commentary Highlights: These three had a great time doing this commentary. "Oh, I can say shit? Cool! We got our shit together..." - Reiko, discovering the pleasures of DVD commentaries.
"You gave me so much shit about that! Oh no, you sit up front. You're on a network, I'm cable." - Reiko

"I was wearing a G-string during this scene." - AMH as Natalie throws Johnny on the sofa and leaps on top of him.
"I was wearing a G-string when I wrote it." - Karl

Funny line of the ep/commentary: "I'm a consultant." - Johnny
"What kind?" - Natalie
"Futures." - Johnny

"That's NOT what I saw." - Johnny after Natalie gives him the weakest, lamest kiss on the planet.

2.16 "The Hunt"

Ounces of Diet Pepsi: 118
Visions: Dance, bunnies, DANCE!

Grouch of the EP award: Me, because this episode sucked.

General Remarks: This is probably the worst Dead Zone episode ever. I think it's a comment on how great the series is that this episode is STILL better than anything else on TV. It's just a grim reality that the other episodes are vastly better. Stories ripped from the headlines suck, and the introduction of a room full of other psychics after so many episodes of insisting that Johnny was unique was a mistake. Especially when you consider that Darth Scar is being introduced around this same time.

Commentators: James Head, Robert Petrovicz, and Shawn Pillar

Commentary Highlights: It was interesting to hear about the network woes of getting this episode on the air. The ins and outs of dressing the streets to look like Pakistan and the various rooms were also interesting. "Basically we couldn't have him see Osoma. Because that would be bad."

Funny line of the ep/commentary: The only really funny line was burned up last year, so I guess the commentary discussion about the 3 year who does the water cup on the door trap was the funniest thing.

2.17 "The Mountain"

Ounces of Diet Pepsi: 120
Visions: I see tired people. VERY tired people! Oh, wait, that's my mirror.

Grouch of the EP award: Walt! "What if it just isn't meant to be?" - when Sarah frets that Johnny will never connect with their son. Wow, it's his freaking son! "I thought you wanted to be a cop!" - Walt, when JJ says he wants to be a ranger like the evil Turman.

General Remarks: Very fun, very exciting episode. This is the epitome of what the producers were trying to do with their "summer fun popcorn episodes." I love all the twists and turns, especially once Walt gets in trouble and has to handle things on his own. I love how likeable the Ranger Truman is before he turns on us. There was a very interesting dynamic between him and Marc the Pyscho. You never knew how it was going to turn out until the end. The payoff at the end of the episode was the most delicious I can remember for this series. Really really fun episode!

Commentators: Mike Rohl, Jaison Stritch, and Robert Petrovicz

Commentary Highlights:
"That's a prosthetic chest on Walt there. No way he's that buff!" - as Walt is laying barechested with Sarah. "Whenever I shoot, I try to get as moviesque as I can." The twenty extension cord nightmare story was funny too.

Funny line of the ep/commentary: "Ahem! Ahem! Ah-hem!" - Sarah fake coughing and pointing at Li'l Johnny when Pauline starts talking about serial killers and other stuff Johnny has done in front of the kid.
