Descriptive Data Capture Tutorial

Forward

Overview

This tutorial will introduce you to Descriptive Data Capture.

Capture lets you send basic facts over the net as plain ASCII and it makes that text as meaningful and as easy to use as a spreadsheet or word-processing document. You, the author of the electronic mail, make the text meaningful by describing it. The program uses that description to create the type of document the receiver of the e-mail needs.

Before you can use Capture, you must have a text file. The text file may come from any source, an application that can save as text, a scanner with OCR software, an archive, or some other source.

In this tutorial, you will learn how to make a description for a type of document. Since it takes some time to make a description, Capture is most advantageous with those documents that will be sent to many partners or that will be produced many times while maintaining the same structure.

You will learn how to Send and Receive descriptions by way of e-mail.

Finally, you will learn how to use a described document to make the type of document that is most useful to the recipient.
