Descriptive Data Capture Quick XML

Forward

First Step

This presentation takes you through the steps of making a description and exporting to an XML file. The description will be based on a list of records with headings.

The very first step is to make a sample text file that represents the type of data you want to store. Keep the length of the file to a minimum. Two or three lines are all you need.

Load your file into Capture with the usual Open command, and then click on the Description Builder command on the Edit menu.

The command starts the first dialog in the Description Builder feature. The first dialog is for document settings.

This is your chance to setup things as you like them.

The Document Font button lets you specify the font for the whole document.

The Define Lexicals button lets you specify the characters that can be selected independently. By default special characters like the dash are just another characters in a word. A word like "Post-Impressionism" is selected as a whole. If you have fields like, "04-Jun-00", you may need to make the dash a lexical, so that all the parts of the date can be selected independently.

When you're ready, click on the Next button.
