Who is Señor Salvo? (¿Quién es Señor Salvo?)

          Señor Salvo was born in Antofagasta, Chile and his family lived there until he was two years old. His elementary school education was done in la escuela católica Don Bosco in Santiago, Chile. At the age of 11 his parents moved to Lima, Perú because of his father's job, he spent four years of his life in this country. His high school years were at Liceo Montt Varas in Santiago. He used to be a boy scout and a radio hand operator during his teen years.

          After high school he attended the Universidad Diego Portales where he majored in engineering. Soon after college, Mr. Salvo worked in the United States in different scout camps. He continued his education at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah. He majored in communications and minored in Spanish/business. To complement his education he has attended several summer institutes and workshops at Seattle Pacific University, California State University (Sacramento)and the University of Utah.

         He has coached soccer for many years beginning with youth programs. From 1989 to 1993 he coached at Ogden High. Since 1992 he has been the head coach of St. Joseph Catholic High School and his program has an overall record of 135-66-5, one State Championship, one final appearance and two semifinals. He has played soccer for many years as well as refereeing in the high school level. He was the assistant to Tom Vudivahama (former Coach of Weber State University) and the Advantage Soccer Club. He has attended numerous soccer clinics and holds a National Diploma in coaching.

        During his college years at Weber State University, he was a radio DJ in 88.1 FM and the Spanish Program Director. After Weber, he worked in 1600 AM and 1010 AM (Radio América) as a DJ and programer. He used to write for América Unidad, a Spanish newspaper in Salt Lake City. In the year 2000 he began his career in the television business as a host and producer. He co-hosts ENFOQUE a television program broadcasts every Saturday in channel 66, Azteca America Network.

       Mr. Salvo has been a trustee on several boards; he was a member of the Utah High School Activities Association's Board of Trustees (2003-06), Board of Directors at the Ogden Nature Center  (2005-2007) and St. Joseph Catholic High School Board (2002-2006).

       Sr. Salvo has been teaching for more than 15 years at Saint Joseph Catholic High School' Spanish Department and since 2002 in the Television/Film Department. In 2001 he was honored by the Dioceses of Salt Lake City as teacher of the year because his innovation of the use of technolgy in the classroom and AP class. Prior to his teaching at Saint Joseph, he taught adult education in the Ogden School District.

       Mr. Salvo loves the outdoors and traveling, one of his goals is to visit all the National Parks in the 50 States. So far he has visited more than 30 National Parks. One of his most proud moments have been when he crossed the arctic circle and visited Gates of the Arctic National Park in Alaska.

     Señor Salvo believe that the first duty of any catholic teachers is to educate the heart. Sr. Alex Salvo said it is the first duty of any Catholic teacher to produce Christian students, as "society today has a greater need for people of values than it has for scholar."
