PHOTOMICROGRAPHS

by

Stefan Eberhard

The following photographs show examples of combining photography and microscopy . With this technique we are able to capture images of the microworld. A photograph that is made through a microscope is called a photo-micro-graph. Although photomicrography is mainly used for documentation in science and industry, photomicrography can also be an art form. Abstract images with striking colors can be obtained by viewing commonplace chemicals such as vitamins, plant fertilizer and other crystalline substances with the use of polarized light. The beauty of these otherwise colorless crystals can only be revealed by viewing them between crossed polarizers. As demonstrated with these pictures, the microscope can serve as a gateway to a colorful and hidden microworld.
