What is a Teacher?
|
|
A teacher is...
|
a path, to help avoid a fall.
an ear, to listen when others call.
|
|
A teacher is...
|
a voice, with which to talk and sing.
a hinge, on which the future swings.
|
|
A teacher is...
|
a shield, for stopping Satan's darts.
a hand, to touch a lonely heart.
|
|
A teacher is...
|
an arm, to lift hearts from defeat.
a light, to awaken those who sleep.
|
|
A teacher is...
|
a rock, to be solid for each day.
an example, to show Christ is the way.
|
|
A teacher is...
|
a hope, while traveling earth's sod.
a life, dedicated to God.

Note from GranGran: I started this page as a tribute to the special teachers
that have
touched the lives of my children. Then I asked them to tell me about those
special teachers. Here's what they had to say:
Scott (son)
Mrs Smith -- my 1st grade teacher because she was the first public school
teacher I had.
Mrs Tabor and Mrs Stanley -- They were the first teachers I had that were
supposed to be real tough and strict.
Coach Criddle and Coach Walker -- They came to junior high the same year I did
and I enjoyed the entire year of getting ready to start eighth grade football.
Mrs Richmond -- she was a very strict and structured teacher that believed in
teaching to the student and not because she had to.
Coach Carroll -- He always taught more than just what applied to academics.
All these teachers taught more than just to the student but wanted each
student to apply what they had for the future.
Todd (son)
John Kelsey!
He watched me paw at the door of computer technologies and let me enter a year
early. More often than not, he talked to me as a person and respected my
abilities. I didn't feel like a kid in a class, When I had an idea other than
what the book said, he encouraged it. And look at me now!
Lori (daughter-in-law)
Two of my elementary grade teachers, Mrs. Hattie Roberts and Mrs. Joyce
Norman, hold a special place in my heart. They truly
loved the children they taught and took the time to get to know their
students and to listen to them. They were always willing to give hugs when
hugs were needed and a shoulder to cry on when things in your life weren't
going so well.
They were also ready to discipline and were always fair.
And
you know a school can't run too well without a principal or two so if I
may.....Mr. Jack Heatherington (high school) and Mr. Otis Hargett (junior high),
were my two favorites. They greeted you each day with a smile or a pat on the
back.
Then, if I were to name Sunday school teachers it would have to be Mrs. Jimmy
Clopton. She was my very first Sunday School teacher and a very, very sweet
and kind lady.
Thank you to each of these people, you have a special place in
my heart.
Denise (daughter-in-law)
I don't remember many teachers I have had...but I will always remember
Franz
Nicholai. He was my art teacher for 2.5 years in high school. He taught us
how to mold clay and our minds into great things. He was a free thinker in a
time when that could get him into trouble in the school system. He taught us
all how to stand up for what we believed (even if it meant going against the
normal train of thought). He spoke to us like adults and let us make our own
decisions, and for that, he has stayed in my memory all these years.
Alex (grandson)
The teachers who have had an impact on my life have been; my second grade
teacher Mrs. Murrah, my fourth grade teacher Mrs. Fitts, my ninth and tenth
grade algebra and
geometry teacher Mr. Conway, Coach Berks my history teacher and football
coach, and Mr. Knight my high school principal my ninth grade year.
My thanks to you all.
