Grandmother's Rocking Chair
Grandma, hold me a little longer, Rock me a little more. Tell me another story, (You've only told me four!) Let me sleep on your shoulder. I love your happy smile. I'll always love you Grandma, so stay with me awhile. I received eMail saying this was written by Karen O. Tribeit.
Loving a Grandchild ! Loving a grandchild is like none other. It's not quite the same as being a mother. You love your children, each one is unique, But the love of a grandchild, will sweep you off your feet. They look up at you, with their cute little grins, touching your heart deep within. They're sweet little angels sent from up above, and they warm your heart with unconditional love. by Deb Miller who very graciously gave me permission to use it here. Thanks Deb
Life is easier if you hear the steps of grandchildren walking beside you.
A grandmother is a blessing from above, who fills our home with warmth and love.
So if you have a grandma Thank the Good Lord up above, And give Grandmama hugs and kisses, For Grandmothers are to love. from Lois Wyse's little book called "Grandmothers are to Love"
Old Grandma Shoes When I was very little All the Grandmas that I knew Were wearing the same kind Of ugly grandma shoes.. You know the kind I mean.. Clunky heeled, black, lace-up kind, They just looked so very awful That it weighed upon my mind, For I knew, when I grew old, I'd have to wear those shoes, I'd think of that, from time to time It seemed like such bad news. I never was a rebel, I wore saddle shoes to school, And next came ballerinas Then the sandals, pretty cool. And then came spikes with pointed toes Then platforms, very tall, As each new fashion came along I wore them, one and all. But always, in the distance, Looming in my future, there, Was that awful pair of ugly shoes, The kind that Grandmas wear. I eventually got married And then I became a Mom Our kids grew up and left, And when their children came along, I knew I was a Grandma And the time was drawing near When those clunky, black, old lace up shoes Was what I'd have to wear. How would I do my gardening Or take my morning hike? I couldn't even think about How I would ride my bike! But fashions kept evolving And one day I realized That the shape of things to come Was changing, right before my eyes. And now, when I go shopping What I see, fills me with glee For, in my jeans and Reeboks I'm as comfy as can be. And I look at all these little girls And there, upon their feet Are clunky, black, old Grandma shoes, And I really think that's neat. ~ by Betty Cessna ~
Greaty-Great Grannie My Greaty-great Grannie is terribly small And she smells just like a sachet. She twinkles and she winkles And she's full of funny wrinkles But she always has a pretzel tucked away! My Greaty-great Grannie is terribly old. I guess she's as old as can be. She teases and she squeezes And she sneezes funny sneezes But she always has a pretzel just for me! Lysbeth Boyd Borie
Gramma's Apron by C. J. Heck Gramma's gone but not forgotten, That's her apron hanging ~~ there. It still hangs in Grampa's kitchen Sometimes he looks at it and stares. When Gramma wore her apron It was magical to me. The pockets held such treasures For the grandkids just like me. Saw it shine up Grampa's fender once Just as pretty as you please And it wiped my brother's cheek off One time when he sneezed. It took cookies from the oven And rushed to wipe a tear. Got a grain of sand out of your eye Made a lap for her stories to hear. It wiped spills up from the countertop When she was baking pies A symbol of her love and care And it showed, too, in her eyes. Sometimes I'm sad to look at it When I see my Grampa stare. Gramma's gone but not forgotten. That's her apron hanging ~~ there.
A New Millenium GranGran Being a GranGran is really fine, But today there is a new design. I don’t even own a chair that rocks, And why would anyone darn the socks? The housekeeper is here to clean my house, I’d much rather surf and click the mouse. If you need me, call my office or try at home. If that doesn’t work, dial the cellular phone. You can Instant Message or send eMail. I promise to reply in great detail. Sorry, this weekend we’ll have to skip Cause I’ll be gone on a business trip. Yes, I used to paint, cross stitch and sew, Being on-line fills my time now, you know. I may not “grandma” like they used to do, And sometimes visits are way too few. It seems life gets busier every day. Guess that’s just the new grandma way. But on one thing I’ll stay a stand, Being GranGran is really GRAND! by Shirley also known as GranGran (please do not take without my permission) Well...yes, I do have pictures of my grandchildren. It was so kind of you to ask.
